Tom Palance & Friends will perform Saturday, March 28, 2026 @ 7:00pm at the Annisquam Village Church, Gloucester MA. This popular quintet is led by veteran trumpeter Tom Palance, who has performed for five US Presidents and shared the stage with Clark Terry, Arturo Sandoval, Doc Severinsen and other celebrated artists.  He will be joined by two-time Grammy Nominee Mark Earley on saxophone, percussionist Jim Latinni, the piano wizardry of Jeff D’Antona, and Dave Landoni on bass.

These seasoned performers play regularly North of Boston and never disappoint. Their repertoire includes both classic and contemporary jazz standards, blues, and popular songs — all with the quintet’s unique twist. This will be their second appearance at the acoustically superb AVC.

We have launched an online Benefit Auction for the F/V Lily Jean Fund  with 100% of the proceeds — including the buyer’s premium — going directly to the F/V Lily Jean Fund, a 501(c) organization created to support the families of the crew. All payments for lots won from the auction will be made by check directly to the F/V Lily Jean Fund.

Cape Ann Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Cassandra Anderson as Librarian and Archivist and Sarah Tripp as Assistant Librarian and Archivist.

Together, Anderson and Tripp will steward the Museum’s extensive Library and Archives, which have been available to researchers and the public since 1875. The Archives include manuscripts and printed materials that provide insight into the daily lives of Cape Ann residents, including letters, business records, cargo manifests, and other historic documents. The Museum’s collection also houses more than 15,000 historic photographs dating from the 19th century to present day.

Anderson graduated in 2022 from Simmons University’s dual master’s degree program in Library and Information Science, with a concentration in Archives and History. She has worked with several university archives, historical societies, and libraries as a consulting archivist and project manager. Her favorite archival materials to work with are letters and diaries, which offer intimate glimpses into everyday life throughout history. 

A lifelong Essex County resident, Tripp holds a bachelor’s degree in English and History from Merrimack College and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons University, which she completed in 2025. She most recently served as a Reference Assistant at the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum. Tripp is deeply committed to making local history accessible and looks forward to collaborating with colleagues to share Cape Ann’s stories with the public.

“This is an exciting time to welcome Cassandra and Sarah to Cape Ann Museum as we prepare to reopen our Downtown Campus in June,” said Oliver Barker, Director of the Cape Ann Museum. “Their expertise will be invaluable as we expand access to our collections with a new Archival gallery Downtown, and continue the Museum’s mission of preserving and sharing Cape Ann’s rich history.”

The Museum’s Downtown Campus at 27 Pleasant Street is currently closed for renovations and will reopen on June 30, 2026, unveiling beautifully redesigned and upgraded gallery spaces dedicated to the Museum’s archival collections.

Spring is a time of transition, so that means saying “See you later” to some of our bird friends as winter wraps up and “Welcome Back” to spring returnees. Jim and I came across a beautiful Long Eared Owl yesterday. Their time remaining in our area is limited so this was a special find. Later, we also spotted our first Great Blue Herons of the season. It’s a lovely time of the year!! Gloucester, MA – Gloucester High School’s National Art Honor Society students at Cove Gallery.  Rocky Neck Art Colony is proud to announce a special Pop-Up Art Show featuring talented young junior and senior artists from Gloucester High School’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society. Presented in collaboration with Cape Ann Art Haven, the exhibition will take place April 10–12, 2026 at Cove Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck Avenue.

The three-day exhibition will showcase original work by Gloucester High School juniors and seniors who are members of the National Art Honor Society, a program established in 1978 by the National Art Education Association to recognize students with outstanding artistic ability and dedication to art scholarship, character, and service.

Now in its fourth year at Gloucester High School, the chapter has made it its mission to bring art into the community and use it as a powerful vehicle for connection. Through projects such as creating portraits for children in Cambodia through the Memory Project, mentoring younger students in the Art Buddies program at Beeman Elementary School, creating pet portraits to help accelerate adoptions, and designing cards for local nursing home residents, students use their artistic talents to bring people together and strengthen community bonds.

This partnership between Rocky Neck Art Colony, Cape Ann Art Haven, and Gloucester High School offers students more than just an exhibition opportunity. As part of the program, students receive hands-on training in the professional practices of running an art exhibition—including framing artwork, curating and hanging a show, marketing their work, engaging with visitors, and learning the fundamentals of selling art.

“Rocky Neck Art Colony is thrilled to host this exciting new show of young artists,” said Elizabeth Carey, RNAC Director. “Providing emerging artists with real-world gallery experience is an important part of nurturing the next generation of creative voices in our community.”

The exhibition will feature a diverse range of mediums—from photography and painting to ceramics and mixed media—each piece reflecting the students’ curiosity, creativity, and personal expression. For many participants, the experience represents an important step in their artistic journey.

While some of these young artists may pursue art professionally after graduation and others may follow different paths, all carry forward the enduring power of art to inspire, connect, and enrich their communities.

The public is warmly invited to visit the Pop-Up Art Show April 10-12, as well as an Opening Reception on Friday, April 10 from 4-6pm.  Join us as we celebrate the creativity and dedication of Gloucester’s emerging artists.

I was craving a taco salad so GMG Jim took me to Tacos Lupita on Washington St for lunch recently. Just the right bright spot on a somewhat grey day! Order pickups were hopping and quite a variety of diners came in from young adults to working guys on lunch break so it’s clearly popular with a wide range of customers. And the pricing is very reasonable. Jim got a chicken taco and I had the salad. We sat to eat so we could watch the world go by along Washington St.

Wednesday our weekly Celtic Seisiún in the restaurant starting at 6pm. This is intended to be a collaborative music experience so come grab a Guinness and enjoy the cozy neighborhood pub vibes! No cover. 

Thursday it’s a double header in the venue – Vocal Gumbo at 6pm (doors at 5:30pm) – 18+. Then our usual Third Thursday (music) Therapy FREE SHOW is a little later this week at 8:30pm (doors at 8pm) with Chip Rockers & Dog Town. 21+ 

Friday we have Altan all the way from Ireland and up on The Cut stage for the first time! Seats are sold out but there are still a limited number of GA Standing tickets left to see this incredible night of traditional Irish music. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. 21+. 

Friday night there will also be live music in the restaurant with Dennis Dulong Jr from 7pm-10pm. No cover.

Saturday is a magically intimate night of nostalgic music with Story Songs of the 70’s! There are still some tickets available. Doors at 7pm. Show at 7:30pm. 18+.

Plus, DJ Vito & Friends will be throwing it down in the restaurant from 9pm – close. No cover.

Sunday Sessions in the restaurant this Sunday with 50 cent wings, free pool, live music from Christine Lucas and Amaro Lima (2-5pm) and more! No cover. Come enjoy the neighborhood bar hang vibe!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It seems only “proper” that we should wrap up the occasional and random Irish Coffee tasting series with a Proper Irish Coffee from Mile Marker on Essex Ave. As always, we were greeted warmly when we arrived with Irish Coffee on our minds. It is indeed the proper Irish Coffee served hot with lightly whipped cold cream and (I believe) Proper Irish Whiskey. My cup overflowed! Thank you Mile Marker! Slainte to all!
