I am commander of the Sons of Gloucester American Legion Post 3
We are not veterans but are sons or grandsons of Vets.
Our mission is to assist veterans and their families.
We provide a free breakfast for Veterans and their families at the Legion building every first Sunday of the month. ( we are in our 3rd year.)
We also help cook 400-700 meals which are delivered to Veterans and other people in need on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
There are multiple events and services that we conduct all year long.
What I am asking is help in spreading the word that so many sons and grandsons of veterans are eligible to be members of our organization.
It is an opportunity to help veterans, enjoy family oriented events and feel a close relationship with those who have served our country in the military.

The FPSS safety team and community health workers, known as Navigators, will be on-hand at the DES Portuguese Club, 133 Prospect St. From 8 a.m.-4 p.m. FPSS maintains that fishermen are the first responders at sea. This CPR and First Aid Course is enhanced to teach life-saving skills to assess and treat injured or ill crew on board fishing vessels before emergency medical personnel arrive. Commercial fishermen who complete this training will receive a FREE First Aid Kit customized to fishing vessels (one per vessel). Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certification meets USCG requirements under 46 CFR 28.2.1.
One of the most critical pieces of lifesaving equipment is a lifejacket. Falls overboard remain the second-leading cause of death in the commercial fishing industry, both regionally and nationally. Wearing a lifejacket greatly increases the chance of surviving a fall overboard. Our training provides fishermen with the opportunity to try on different types of lifejackets to find one that they can comfortably wear while working. In partnership with The Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety, FPSS is proud to offer training participants a 50% rebate toward a lifejacket of their choosing.
Past attendees continue to speak positively about the relevance of training. As a recent attendee reported, “I have learned a lot of information that’ll help me on any type of boat.”

My sister Judy saw mirror lens attachments for cell phones advertised and thought I might be interested, so I ordered one. I thought you might be interested in the initial test results. Of course, our beautiful dahlias made perfect subjects for this test run. It’s fairly easy to use though I need some practice in positioning it to the best advantage. So far, I’d give this model a B rating (and the photographer gets a C) but I think it might get better with practice. There are several models available at very reasonable prices and this is a link to the one I choose: mirror lens.
