When I posted yesterday, I didn’t know the Chamber is still offering $28 tickets at their 44 Commercial St. office until Friday @ Noon.  And if you go to the Harbor Loop concert tomorrow and track down Frank Biscardi or Gary Gorczyca, you can get $28 tickets from them too.  Weather prediction is for 72 and sunny.  A tad cool for the beach, but perfect for dancing to the Blues @ Stage Fort Park!

This is it. Â Right now. Â August probably gives us, here in Gloucester, more entertainment choices than any other month — I haven’t really studied this, it just feels that way, but I’ll bet it’s true.
Shalin Liu‘s busy schedule is a prime example. Â Many of their concerts are sold out, but here are a few choice shows we recommend, all of which have good seats left.
Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes this Thursday, August 6th.  They’re billing this show as ONE MAN, FIVE GUITARS AND TRUE ARTISTRY.  No kidding.  Get tickets here.
A.J. Croce next Wednesday, August 12.  Knowing he’s son of Jim Croce might be enough to get you there.  But you might as well just take it from Willie Nelson, who said, “A.J. Croce has wisdom beyond his years. With his music, he represents his generation with a profound sense of honesty in his lyrics and quality in his delivery. The future of entertainment is safe in his hands!”
And then there’s the Rockport Jazz Festival from August 13-16, featuring one of my newest friends, Sean Jones, on August 15. Â Sean was Henri Smith’s special guest at Saturday’s Block Party in Beverly and let’s just say he owned the crowd of thousands, who showed up. Â Expect great things from Sean Jones over the next few years!

Perhaps it’s worth a trip to Beverly tomorrow to see how they do their Block Parties (info here). There are some differences between theirs and ours in Gloucester, notably that the entire area is fenced and you can walk down the street drinking a beer (or wine).  Music is only on 2 stages and Gloucester’s own Henri Smith headlines the Beverly Bank Stage tomorrow, featuring Sean Jones (new, young chair of Berklee’s Brass Department) and Salem’s Henley Douglas, Jr.
Something new in Beverly for tomorrow is an AFTER PARTY at 9:30pm hosted by The Cabot featuring Beverly born comedian Dave Rattigan, an intimate New Orleans concert by Henri Smith New Orleans Friends & Flavours with Grammy-winner Amadee Castenell added to the bill along with other performers from the Block Party and a Taste of Beverly’s Best Late Night Snacks competition with food from Beverly Favorites: The Wild Horse, Gloria’s, The Indo, Freeda’s and Calibasil.

Every year the Gloucester Blues Festival gets better and better.  Next Saturday (Aug 8th) is your only chance to see major blues stars LIVE IN GLOUCESTER on the same stage.  Here’s a little taste of what you can expect from one of the SEVEN bands, Mitch Woods, who will ROCK stage Fort Park like you’ve never heard it done before!
It’s not that hard to write review panning a concert or an album.  You’ve probably read many such reviews.  It’s much more difficult to write a glowing piece that doesn’t sound corny or like a puff piece.  Below is one of the best examples of a rave review that I’ve ever read. It is at once intelligent, witty, entertaining, straight to the point and completely devoid of obscure references and highfalutin language reviewers all to often use in an attempt to show off their intellect.  It’s written by local singer/songwriter/composer/lighting designer Inge Berge, who is actually smart, so he doesn’t need to try and convince anybody.  Check it out:
Fans of exquisite music: Pay attention to Ruby Rose Fox. Her headlining at The Cabot tonight, courtesy of Peter Van Ness and GimmeLive is easily among the top 3 shows I’ve seen all year (and I see way too many shows.) This show was pure magic. Sublime. Genius.
Her songwriting is smart, heartfelt, genre-bending, profound and just plain gorgeous. Her musicianship is impeccable. Her stage presence is mysterious, deep, eclectic and sexy as all get-out. The backup singers blend like butter yet cut like a razor. The band is road-tight and stadium-confident. The material is presented with rock balls, sensual vulnerability and analytic intelligence. A show chemically cleansed of clichés and standard showbiz cheese.
I count myself among the lucky few who got to experience this evening of not-yet-world-famous MA-grown music before it turns into something more industry-processed. (Hopefully not.)
Unfortunately, what I find of Ruby Rose Fox’s music currently online does not quite do justice to the show I saw tonight. But I understand there’s a full length CD in the works. I’m first in line to purchase.

Last night, a number of our Gloucester friends came to the Robert Randolph & The Family Band concert we presented at The Cabot in Beverly, some of whom exclaimed, “Boy it’s just amazing that we can see this level of music so close to home!”
Indeed, Beverly is about as close as a national touring artist, the likes of Robert Randolph, is likely to get to Gloucester. Â So perhaps it’s time for us to extend our notion of “just down the road” to include Beverly, which is … dare I say … over the bridge.
Tomorrow we’re bringing three of the hottest Boston area bands to the Cabot stage: Boston Music Award winners Ruby Rose Fox and Jesse Dee with Salem’s Sarah & the Wild Versatile.  We believe all three bands will soon be playing much bigger venues — that are much farther away than Beverly and — oh yeah — charge a whole lot more for tickets.  ALL AGES  seats for tomorrow’s concert start at $15 (the same as it costs to see Jurassic World at the mall).  It’s a great show for your kids, who’ll be able to say “I saw them up close at The Cabot!”  Good seats are still available here.

Why not c’mon down to the Rhumbline this Thursday and dance your ass off to the pimple-popping sounds of that Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor: Mr. Andrew Clark. With his erumpent vocal shenanigans and ventricle-atomizing saxophone, there’ll be plenty to talk to your therapist about on your next visit. I’m making an appointment now. Not only that but Mr. Steve Sadler, on catarrh, will be sandbagging the groove with the likes of Mr. Ephraim Lowell, on the jackhammers. Gonna be a great night!

Rob and I happened upon the North Shore Art Gallery on the 8th. While taking our time enjoying the various paintings, we were quite surprised to hear chamber music above us. What a delightful afternoon as we listened to the quartet playing Schubert (written at age 16)…starting and stopping with a sense the foursome thoroughly were enjoying their practice which made us relax and enjoy their hard work and the many, many notes well played. Though my iPhone 6+ takes great video, it doesn’t seem to translate as well, but hopefully this may encourage others to enjoy the final result (July 17th at 8pm) of their well practiced time. Also, various artists were invited to draw or paint during this musical delight, and I have captured two with pleasure. Never a dull moment during our visits to Gloucester/Rockport. You have a great thing going here and we love it! Again, thank you for Good Morning Gloucester, it keeps us in touch though we are five plus hours away.
