DO YOU NEED HELP PUTTING FOOD ON YOUR TABLE DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK? MESSAGE FROM BACKYARD GROWERS

COVID-19 is having a direct impact on many families and seniors in our community. We’ve put together a list of resources available to those experiencing food insecurity and hunger at this challenging time. We’re all in this together. For assistance, please see below:

🥕 Project Bread – Food Source Hotline: The toll-free Hotline responds to more than 28,000 calls a year from people across Massachusetts struggling to feed their families. FoodSource Hotline counselors refer callers to food resources in their community as well as provides them with information about school meals, summer meal sites for kids, elder meals programs, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.

🥕 The Open Door – The Food Pantry at The Open Door provides emergency groceries to those in need. Community Meals offer free, nutritious meals to those in need of food.

🥕 Gloucester School Food Service Department – The City has established a lunch “Pick-Up Station” at O’Maley Middle School at 312 Cherry St., Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. – noon. All children ages 18 and under, regardless of their Free/Reduced/Full Pay status will receive a FREE complete nutritious bagged lunch daily. The meals are prepared under the same strict nutrition and food safety guidelines that are followed every day in our school kitchens. Meals may not be consumed at the “Pick-Up Station” limiting participants’ interaction and proximity to other participants.

🥕 The Office of the Mayor of the City of Gloucester If you are self-quarantining or under mandatory quarantine (none as of 3/16) and need food assistance, please contact the Mayor of the City of Gloucester at mayor@gloucester-ma.gov. The City has runners and will drop off a food package to you.

🥕 Backyard Growers will soon be launching a program to make container gardening materials and resources available to our community – putting the power to grow your own food on more doorsteps, patios, back stairs, and backyards throughout the region, in a variety of shapes and sizes. Watch this space.

DUCKWORTH’S GIFT CARDS- HERE’S AN EXAMPLE OF A WAY TO HELP OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

Many share our worries in regard to local small businesses. Our restaurants and the friends who work in these establishments, downtown Main Street retail shops, Cape Ann’s fishermen and lobstermen, the nonprofits that serve our community, artists, writers, photographers, musicians, designers, the list goes on and on. We are all going to be hit hard by this devastating turn of events.

One way in which we can help each other stay afloat is to buy gift cards. It may sound inconsequential, but every purchase will help. Our friends at Duckworth’s have a link to purchase gift cards and it is a great example of one small way we can help. Duckworth’s Gift Cards

Any local business that wants to communicate with their customers and the public about special offerings during these extremely challenging times please feel free to email me (kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com) or email any of our contributors and we will post here. Thank you!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY SWIM!

Happy International Women’s Day from these beautiful (and fearless) Gloucester women

Photos by Dani Shirtcliff

Sara McKinnon writes,
Hello!

My name is Sara McKinnon from Happyhealthyhumanity.com. I co-hosted this incrediby HIGH VIBE event with Treetop Yoga studio. I have been Wild Swimming every single day, sometimes twice a day through the winter. My friend Jessica McGovern and I started our Wim Hof Cold Exposure journey back in October for the health benefits. Since then, it has grown and expanded across Cape Ann in ways we never imagined. It has been such a huge gift in all of our lives. We call ourselves “The Wild Swimmers of Cape Ann.” Breaking through fear and limiting beliefs one swim at a time.

Our Sunrise Swim at Good Harbor Beach for International Women’s Day was inspired by Wild Swimmers of Scottland, their book Taking the Plunge, and their swim last year which attracted 70 women. This year women all across the globe swam in community today at Sunrise. We were the only ones participating in the entire United States! Representing in a big way in our beautiful Gloucester.
Dani Shirtcliff of Shirtcliff Photography took this gorgeous photo. The photo includes all who swam and some who also participated didnt make it into the picture. Swimmers included- Sara McKinnon, Jessica McGovern,  Silvie Lockerova,  Julie Upton, Laurie Fleming, Michelle Barton, Ivana Ustariz, Brandeis Wright Conroy, Danette Verga, Tracey Richie, Nicole Sweeney Duckworth, Stephanie Hurley McQuillan, Mandy Davis, Leah Hunter, Whitney Connolly, Kathleen O’Shea, Sandra Qu, Karen Conant, Jenny Davis, Danielle Babin and her mother.
We represented health and wellness institutions across Cape Ann such as Happy Healthy Humanity, Silvie Lockerova Healing, Streamline Pilates, Cape Ann Cross Fit, and Treetop Yoga Studio and more.
Wild Women Woman Awakened and Happy Healthy Humanity both have new shows through 1623 studios. Look for Julie Upton’s segment on Wild Swimming coming soon
Health, Happiness and Hugs,

Johnny Bluehorn @ The Rhumb Line Thursday Feb. 20th, 8:30pm Dave Sag Blues Party!

poster by Louise Welch

Thursday night! Welcome back Mr. Johnny “Bluehorn” Morricone. The fastest gun in the west; Ma.,that is. All the way from Woosta! It’s always a blast having him raise the stakes. He brings such a great sense of joy to the stage. Beltin’ out melodies on his blue trumpet and crooning a la’ Bingh Crosbee when necessary. Plus Blobby Gus, a truly authentic Jimmy Johnson acolyte will be scratchin’ that gootar. And Ed Scheer will be doin’ drum dooties and begging the question and the tip jar. Don’t miss this ~ DS

Wednesdays at The Rhumb Line with Fly Amero ~This week’s special guest: Sal Baglio 7pm 2.19.2020

Dinner Specials Each Week!
Wednesday, February 19… 7pm start
My Musical Guest: SAL BAGLIO!

The unbelievable, one and only Sal Baglio (of Stompers fame)
comes to the Rhumb Line this week as my oh-so special guest.
Y’wanna talk about positive energy? Well, I’ve always said, this
guy rocks your skull off. He’s been all over the world doin’ his
incredible thing, and we just happen to be lucky enough to have
him here on our tiny little island. Rumor has it that longtime friend
and musical soulmate, Allen Estes may join the evening’s “Flystivities”
(Sal’s word). This doesn’t happen very often (in fact, it’s a first), so
don’t even think of doing anything silly like staying home and watching
something on TV that you can otherwise record and watch at a later
date. This is frickin’ SAL BAGLIO! OKAY? OKAY. ~ Fly
