To All  Gloucester Nor  Easters Players and Parents
The Town Directors wanted to  give a huge thank you for your participation during the first  season of Flag  Football.  It was an  incredible year , lots a of great games and times at  Omaley  each  Sunday.  We had a  blast  getting this up and running and hoped you enjoyed as much  as we  did .  We  are having the first ever Tournament of Champions being held at Omaley  on  November 22 , all day events going on numerous games teams from  many cities participating.  Hope to  see you there and come cheer on  our own city  Champions the Jaguars  and the Eagles , as well  our runner ups   Falcons and Chiefs.

International Dory Races

It was a great day of racing this past weekend with good match ups in all divisions, that are gaining momentum each year.  US women’s team Amanda Palazzola and Lindsey Rogers in their 2^nd year of dory racing competed in a close race to the very end losing out to arguably one of the best Canadian women’s teams of all time (Kath Moore & Gail Atkinson).  The Junior men’s category showed two teams with similar boat speed but the Canadian’s John Ernst & Jack Smith navigated a superior course to a win over Tyler Edmonds and Thomas Beaton.  I believe both of these teams will have 1 final year competing against one another in the Junior category.  The US mixed team’s 18 year old Lily Jean Sanfilippo broke an oar on the start in her very first race.  She was pretty rattled and had to row with unfamiliar gear, but made the US team and her partner Bill Edmonds proud with a valiant effort.  Canada’s newly paired mixed team Danette Eden/Willy Wells looked like they had rowed together for years, and  with superior course navigation and composure, they powered to a victory.  The Over 50 match-up pitted last year’s US contenders Alex Thomas/Donny Favaloro against Canadian living legend Walter Nickerson (with 5 decades of experience and too many wins to keep track of) & 8 year dory mate and equally successful Danny Moody.  There are not too many 50+ or younger who would like to see Walter and Danny line up beside them in a dory.  As expected, Walter & Danny piled up another win for the Canadians despite the heart felt efforts of the Americans.  And, in the final race of the day 3 time International Champs Glenn Harrington/Erik Dombrowski faced off with 5 time consecutive International Champs Joel George/Markus Schmidt.  After a close race to the turning flag, the Canadian team executed a perfect approach and turn gaining a lead and extending it back to the finish line.  Joel and Markus are excellent rowers with an unmatched work ethic in the dory, showing all the teams in the event the passion and dedication it takes to dominate dory racing.

A great day of racing in front of a good sized crowd after a very foggy start on picturesque Lunenburg Harbour was capped off by an afternoon/evening of camaraderie with US and Canadian rowers and friends rekindling long time friendships, swapping rowing stories and challenging each other with future competition to determine who has the world’s best dory rowers.  Don’t miss the 2016 June International Dory Races in Gloucester, MA.

We are pleased to announce the 39^th running of the Magnolia Road Race to benefit the Magnolia Library Center next Saturday morning. This year, the great Joe Nadeau Band featuring Sandy Peek will perform right on Lexington Ave at the finish line.

The traditional kid’s 1K Fun Run will begin at 8:30AM followed by the USATF approved 5K Road Race at 9:15 AM.  The 1K Fun Run route will follow Norman Ave. to Shore Road to Hesperus Ave. to Lexington Ave. and finishing at the Library. The 5K road race map below outlines the route and streets that could be affected between 8:30AM and 10:15AM.  Senator Bruce Tarr will officially start the 5K while Cape Ann Savings Bank EVP and Team Gloucester running legend Bob Gillis will kick off the 1K.

Still Time to Register To Run: It is easy to register any of the following ways:

· On-line at www.magnolialibrary.org  ($25 or $20 for Magnolia Residents; $5 for the kids fun run)

· If you choose to register on race day, please be certain to show up well before race time. ($30 race day)

We hope you can run our classic 5K (3.1 miles) race or come out to cheer on the runners! Race day registration is in the Library. The starting line is at 1 Lexington and Norman in front of the Library Center.

All are welcome to join in the Library’s pancake breakfast and Gloucester Police touch a truck!  Kids get free pancakes and entry to the Library’s Bouncy House as part of their 1K entry fee.
