Hi Joey,
My lovely wife, Mary Kay, Cindy Perry and Scott Tyrrell paddled a 4-person outrigger canoe in last week’s Blackburn Challenge. We belong to Boston Outrigger Racing Association and our club was well represented in this year’s event. The 4-person outrigger is called “The Duke” and had a couple of GoPro’s running. As you know, the seas were big and there was plenty of adventure! Our “ama” or outrigger filled up with water and we had to drain it on the beach in Gap’s Cove. We had a terrific race and hope Good Morning Gloucester enjoys our video!

Magnolia Road Race Committee is pleased to announce our 39th annual 5K and 1K Fun Run will be held on Saturday August 29.
Good Morning!
The Race Committee is pleased to announce our 39th annual 5K and 1K Fun Run will be held on Saturday August 29.
We hope you will join us again this year and bring the entire family to Lexington Avenue for a morning of fun and competition. As an early enticement, we are offering a third off the 5K race day fee if you sign up before the end of June. You will find the registration link with more information at www.magnolialibrary.org
The 1K kids Fun Run is still $5.00 and includes entry to the pancake breakfast. All kids get a medal for participating.
There are cash prizes for the 5K and its first 100 entries will get a free running shirt. These are always long gone by race day, so please register early.
The Gloucester Police Department is again planning to have a touch-a-truck after the race. The bouncy house was a huge hit last year and will be back.
The Joe Nadeau Band will be performing live at the start and finish lines. The band was killer last year and shouldn’t be missed whether you are running or not
Best Wishes
Randy O’Neil

Lennie Merullo finds David Cox
Lennie recently passed away at the age of 98 (May 5, 1917 – May 30, 2015), during his 50 years of scouting for the MLB, he found David Cox, see Newspaper clipping from Gloucester Times, stating that while scouting in the New England area. He had come to watch Gloucester’s Frankie Destino and Lynn English’s Johnny Hyde, but found in the midst David Cox.
“This Cox boy is a smooth operator, and looks like he can hit” said Lennie. “He’s a senior, you say? Looks like a good collge prospect to me. Has the arm, the speed and the power. One of the best boys I’ve seen this season”.
David continues to show his passion for sports through his photography of local Gloucester High School Sports, and published here on GoodMorningGloucester. David’s GMG Posts

There was a strong NE breeze and intermittent rain and fog but they raced in the lee of Eastern Point so waves and wind were not bad until way out.
The race was close as you can see from the times and the lead changed several times. The Morrisseys will be going to Canada in the end though.

2015 Essex River Race Results
Results for this year’s Essex River Race. The
race happened yesterday, May 16. It’s an approximately 5 1/2 mile race
down the Essex River, around Cross Island by Conomo Point, and back to
Rt. 133 at the Essex Ship Building Museum. The conditions were awesome,
temps in the low 70’s, sea breeze, overcast with just a hint of a
sprinkle now and again.
Chris Chappell, you can post these on the web site. I am quite
confident of the results as the timing crew was impeccable. So I am
also sending this out to the press.
Wonderful day, excellent event. Thanks to all!
Peace, Dave
