Love, Pure and Solid From Fred Bodin
One of the highlights of the Block Party for me was a visit by these newlyweds. Phil is from Gloucester and Silvie is from the Czech Republic. They live in West Gloucester. Phil works in the corporate world, and Silvie is a holistic healer. She’ll be hosting an event called "Power, Women, & Wine," featuring healers, artists, and readers at Savour Wine and Cheese on September 19th. Call Silvie at 978-412-5400 for more info. It’s funny, 25+ years ago I hosted an opening at my first gallery in East Gloucester (next to the Last Stop). It was called "Ducks, Battleships, & Wine." Guy thing. Hey Joey! The GMG mesh hat is so cool (literally). I love it. Thanks again. And thanks for reserving one of the stonewashed hat for me also. Just email when they come in and I’ll pick it up at the dock.
Keep up the tremendous work you do with the GMG blog. It’s what we all need in these crazy times now.
Best to you and your family!

Drive by Shooting on Main Street
Fred Bodin reports:
This just happened – a Drive By Shooting! I was walking down to La Trattoria to check out their menu, and as I passed the HarborWalk granite post, I mentioned to the woman looking at the sign that she could read the QR code with her smartphone. After walking another 6 feet, a car stopped in the middle of Main Street. A young woman stuck her head out, iPhone in hand, and said: "You two look great together!" I replied: "I don’t even know her." The woman in the car insisted, so I went to pose with a stranger, and put my arm around her for a picture we’ll never see. When they drove off, I introduced myself as Fred, and she as Jane. She came into my gallery and we chatted. Jane Kingsland, originally from England, is a librarian in Randolph, NJ. She’s here on holiday, and represented our GMG at the scene of the crime. Strangers no more.

Fish On! Mark Destino and “Friend” Laura from Cleveland Represent! At Bodin Historic Photo
Fred Bodin writes-
Fish On!
This is Laura, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and first time visitor to Gloucester, hosted by colleague and friend Mark Destino (https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2012/08/15/who-is-this-dude/). They both work at Cleveland’s Ronald MacDonald House. She and Mark went out on his Uncle Jimmy’s (Destino) boat "Tuna & Egg" (named after a popular sandwich from Destino’s Subs in Gloucester). Her first lifetime cast into salt water resulted in a trophy striper measuring 34". She yelled: "Fish On!" I say: "Sign her up!" I’m thinkin’ she’s now a Glosta’ girl.
Mark Destino and friend Laura from Cleveland. Mark and I go way back – it’s always great to see him, and was also nice to meet Laura. He calls me "Uncle Fred." I call Mark a lucky man

Cossack Bikers Represent! On Main Street Gloucester
Fred Bodin submits-
David and Jane Beddus, of Gloucester, parked their Russian-made Ural motorcycle in front of my gallery this morning. When they returned from breakfast, I recognized David as the guy who, two weeks ago, visited the gallery wearing his newly purchased pink sport jacket (from Bananas). The Ural was developed by order of Joseph Stalin in the early 1940s, in anticipation of Adolph Hitler’s army invading the country. This combination design motorcycle follows the 1941 design, and was called the "Cossack." The headlight in front of Jane, David tells me, is where the machine gun was mounted. He calls his military Patrol model "great fun." You can pick one up new in Boxborough for around $16,000. Very cool, comrade!
Bob Represents! Sliced Bread From Ann Kennedy
Hi Joey and All. Here in the middle of the country, in the middle of Missouri, in the middle of corn fields you will find the home of sliced bread. And so here’s Bob representing at the Sliced Bread and Jam Bluegrass Fest…in between dodging tornado weather! A good day for real BBQ and a brew.
As usual, we are enjoying GMG until we return. What a fabulous group you’ve got. Just awesome in every way. Miss you guys, but see you soon I’m sure
GMGers Infiltrate Monster Rubber Duck HQ In Tsim Sha Tsui, Across Victoria Harbor from Hong Kong Island
Laurence Kent Jones submits-
Dear Joey,
I’m a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, married to Julee Allen. We have a home off Washington St, and have been flitting in and out of Gloucester over the last several years while assigned and living overseas, first in Haiti and then in Hong Kong.
We’ve very much enjoyed the VERY LARGE rubber ducky than has been moored off the Star Ferry terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, across Victoria Harbor from Hong Kong Island. The Hong Kong People have enjoyed it too, and there was always a large or larger crowd around it, gawking and wondering, but mostly, in the honored Asian tradition, taking pictures, especially of each other in front of the ducky with their cell phones and tablet computers.
Since there’s been some interest in GMG, I’m sending a portfolio, including some pics of Julee and me representing and a bunch of B&W Infra-Red shots from my greatly modified big Canon. Feel free to use as you see fit. I hope you enjoy them in any case. I do think the Monster Homey should come to Gloucester, but I gather the artist is being very cagey about the next stop…

Gloucester folks complete Tough Mudder
Gloucester resident Chris Mangos and two Gloucester daytimers* Joanna Smart and Deb Fowler, completed the Tough Mudder over the weekend in Gilford, New Hampshire. The Tough Mudder is a 12 mile obstacle course, up and down the steep terrain of Gunstock Mountain. Obstacles included diving into an ice pool (affectionately called the Artic Enema), crawling through dark muddy tunnels, lifting and carrying logs up hill, and running through mud pits with electrically charged wires hanging overhead. Why would anyone do this? To challenge themselves, to break out of their humdrum all-work-and-no-play lifestyle, and for the fun and camaraderie of the experience. Most participants are part of a team, and with a motto of "no man left behind," any Mudder who needs a hand can count on one of their teammates to help. The Tough Mudder also donates a percentage of their profits to The Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that assists severely injured veterans.
Part of the training for Chris, Joanna and Deb included jumping in the cold waters of Magnolia Beach in April, and running the trails around Goose Cove Reservoir and Ravenswood Park. Although they are suffering sore muscles, all completed the course in good condition! Job well done!
*Gloucester daytimers = anyone who is employed in Gloucester but does not live here.

Manchester and Brooklyn Represent!
Fred Bodin submits-
Ellie Grose of Manchester (MA) and Amier Carmel of Brooklyn (NY) came into my gallery this afternoon. Ellie is an old friend of my potter, Kristen Brousseau of Costa Rica. I gave Ellie the green plate she’s holding in the photo. Amier, born in Manhattan and now living in Brooklyn, is a frequent visitor to Cape Ann. He watched the second plane hit the World Trade Tower and the collapse of the building. Being a licensed social worker, he went directly to the scene and offered all assistance he could. His story took my breath away, and I’ll video the story for you this summer. Great folks!
