OTHER NEWS FROM ARTS ABOUND
One never knows what each day is going to bring…that’s a fact that we all know
and live with. However, even with that knowledge, some days can throw us for
a loop! I had one of those days on September 20th. I am an avid cyclist; while I
was pedaling along, a driver, blinded by the afternoon sun, smashed right into
me and caused quite a bit of damage to my body. I was airlifted to a trauma
center and spent a while in the hospital. I am home now but still have a bit of
recovery to do. In the meanwhile, I have been blessed to have friends,
especially Kathy, Donna, Laurinda and Karen, and family help me out in
numerous ways. Some of these people, and even a few customers, have been
running the gallery for me. I recently started to work in the gallery again and
have been overwhelmed with all the support I have received. Definitely a silver
lining! Thank you all for all you are doing to help out and for your patience while
I reduce my hours for a bit so that I can get well. It takes a village and Magnolia
is just that place!
Peace to you all, Sue Wheeler, owner

The Gloucester Rotary Club is once again publishing a 12-month Cape Ann photo calendar for 2021 as a fundraiser. All profits will go to the Gloucester Rotary Club’s many community and international activities.
In Order to publish a beautiful calendar, the Club is requesting high quality digital photos that reflect the amazing communities of Cape Ann throughout the year—photos that reflect what the photographer feels “community” means to him/her, whether it is a person, place or event. As we will be featuring one photo per month, we need images from each season: winter, spring, summer and fall. Photographs from Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester will be accepted.
For complete contest rules please visit https://gloucesterrotary.org/page/calendar-photos. Please note that we have extended the contest deadline to Sunday, September 27, 2020. We appreciate your support and interest in helping us with calendar fundraiser.
Thank you for your continued support of the Gloucester Rotary Club.
Sincerely,
Patrick Thorpe

John’sArtist Statement
My real passion is to capture the beauty of nature through the eye of my camera. A native New Englander, my inspiration primarily comes from photographing New England landscapes. I try to capture the uniqueness each season brings along with the magic light that exists. I love capturing the beauty of the coastline. I particularly enjoy photographing during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset and also am drawn to images where nature and man made elements meet. Photography for me is all about capturing a moment in time which may never be repeated. I spend a good amount of time driving on backroads or hiking to secluded places to capture the beauty of nature. My photographs have been published in the Photographer’s Forum Magazine, Cape Ann Magazine (including three cover photos), Lowell Sun and Gloucester Times. I am a juried member of Gallery 53 on Rocky Neck, Rockport Art Association, and Newburyport Art Association where my work can be viewed along with the Depot Diner in Beverly and Cape Ann Coffee in Gloucester. I can make matted/framed photos in a variety of sizes or as framed canvas, metal or glass photos.

Manchester Historical Museum at 10 Union Street is thrilled to reopen on Tuesday, July 14, and would like to invite you to come view the current art exhibit and sale – “Cape Ann through Artists’ Eyes.” Come enjoy paintings and photography from 18 local artists. This free exhibit will run through September during our regular hours Tuesday – Fridays (10 – 3). As artwork sells, new items will be hung, so come a couple of times during this run. In order to comply with CDC and state guidelines, guests and staff must wear face coverings while inside, practice social distancing, sanitize hands upon entrance and register for Covid tracing. We will be limiting the number of people in the exhibit hall which may mean a short wait in our lovely courtyard before entering. The historic Trask House will remain closed for the time being. Limited archive research will resume but will be by appointment only.
