Cape Ann Adaptive Lacrosse – A HUGE SUCCESS!

Team Adaptive

What a successful season!

The CAYL Adaptive Lacrosse Program is the first of its kind in Massachusetts and is open to all communities.  It is designed to provide girls and boys with physical, learning and/or cognitive disabilities the chance to learn the game of lacrosse in an appropriate environment.  The program is open to participants ages 8-14.  This program offers a way for kids with physical and developmental disabilities to enjoy the sport in a non-competitive and adaptive environment.  Coaches and organizational participants will emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development on an age and ability appropriate basis.

The program is structured to have middle and high school lacrosse players from local communities  teamed as a “buddy” or “mentor” for each adaptive participant. These buddy coaches assist in adapting the skills and teaching methods to the needs of each participant’s ability and specific requirements.   Equipment and rules are modified as necessary to meet participant’s needs while maintaining the overall fundamental lacrosse team experience.

CAYL & GHS LAX Clinic

GoalieClinicThe unsung hero of lacrosse is the Goalie, the one who is the last line of defense, the one who takes the outcome of a games loss to heart but shares in the glory of the win.  CAYL Girls Lacrosse Director/Coach and All Star Goalie, Meghan MacLaughlin (front row blue jersey)held a Goalie Clinic for both High School and Cape Ann Lacrosse Youth players last night at GHS. Meghan’s lacrosse legacy started in the 6th Grade was a 4 year starting goalie at Pingree, then recruited to play for the University of Richmond at Virginia. The Clinic was a success, CAYL would like to thank, Meghan, all the Goalies and the Lacrosse players that helped out.   The Lacrosse season starts in April, so go out enjoy the warm weather and watch a game or two of Lacrosse!
