Bridget Mathews captured this beautiful photo during last nights St. Peter Novena

The Feast of St Peter begins each year with a 9 day religious novena, held at the American Legion Hall on Washington Street here in Gloucester.  Each evening women of all ages…and a few men…gather for a nightly rosary, mainly done in Sicilian. Click links below for a to hear one of the oldest deep rooted Sicilian tradition’s still held in our beautiful community.

The St. Peter Rosary…

You may remember this song from past post relating to St Joseph Rosary this past March…It was my Uncle Mike Militello most favorite Novena Song Dell’Aurora. It has become our families favorite song…we can’t help but think of him each time we sing the chorus part of this song…

Peter Favazza writes~ This is what it’s all about. The statue of St. Peter who makes miracles happen …here I’m taking a picture with my cousin Sarah Favazza. Sarah’s father Salvatore Favazza bought the St Peter Statue over from Sicily 80 years ago.

Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing

Print

SistaFelicia-ButtermilkBlueCheese-0Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing

Ingredients

¾ cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoon tarragon vinegar

⅓ cup buttermilk

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

¾ cup crumbled blue cheese

Step-by-Step

1 combine first 6 ingredients in bowl of food processor fitted with metal blade
2 process 30-40 seconds or until creamy dressing forms

*Note

There are many ways to make blue cheese dressing; basic ingredients always include mayonnaise, blue cheese, and one acidic ingredient like vinegar, lemon juice, or Worcestershire sauce, that is  blended together with, a cream product like; heavy cream, sour cream, crème fraiche, or buttermilk.  After countless times of making and serving this dressing,  I prefer to use sour cream or crème fraiche  when I need a thick textured dressing and, prefer to use  buttermilk when needing a lighter and looser textured dressing.  It’s all personal preference, and or what’s on hand in your refrigerator!

IPAC Inox-Stainless Steel Fresh Herb Mill

It’s time to start jazzing up your marinades, salads, and side dishes with the fabulous flavors of fresh herbs, and produce from local farms! Put the winter recipes away…”Summer Cooking” has officially begun! Think Fresh, Fabulous and Flavorful when preparing meals…This week many CSA Farm Programs kick off their 2014 along with dozens of weekly community Farmers markets throughout the North Shore area.   Because I’m so excited to finally have an abundance of fresh locally grown produce, and herbs at my finger tips for the next several months, I thought I’d feature my IPAC Inox-Stainless Steel Fresh Herb Mill.  This handheld mill is by far the most used kitchen gadget, in my kitchen during the summer months. It’s easy to use, and cuts through herbs with minimal bruising, making pretty flake like cuts that are the perfect size to use to dress up a platted meal with a fresh professional look.

*Friendly Reminder~ “The Cape Ann Farmers Market” held at Stage Forth Park, begins Thursday June 12 at 3 pm.

Banana Split Scones

Banana Split Scones

This morning I created this recipe for my daughter Amanda, who requested freshly baked scones for breakfast.  I thought I whip up a batch using slightly overripe strawberries, and extra coconut milk leftover from another recipe.  The results were great! The scones are light and fluffy, and not overly sweet.  Tuck this recipe into your recipe box…strawberry season is around the corner!

Anninversary Dinner at The Franklin

Printf7I recently listed The Franklin in my top 5 most favorite places to dine on the North Shore, during a Gloucester Podcast, with Brother Joey and Nichole Schrafft.  It truly is one of my favorite places to dine. The atmosphere is hip, cozy, clean, comfortable, and private. Their wait staff is always on point with outstanding service, and clear knowledge of what components make up each gourmet dish creatively pieced together by their talented chefs in the kitchen. The Franklin chefs have clearly mastered the art of cleverly paring textures and flavors of seasonal ingredients, perfectly together. They wow my taste buds every time we dine there.

Yesterday my Husband Barry and I Celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at The Franklin Restaurant on Main Street in Gloucester Ma.  Last night’s anniversary dinner started with Crisp Iceberg, Apple Wood Smoked Bacon, Tomato, Blue Cheese Dressing, and Grilled Lamb Chops, with Arugula, Fennel & Bell Pepper Salad. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, and the Arugula Salad was tossed in tasty light dressing that complemented the grilled chops nicely.  Our Entrée’s for the evening were both OUTSTANDING!  My husband selected Soy Chile Glazed Salmon, Scallion Twice Fried Rice, and I selected the House Made Mushroom Ravioli, Tomato, Lemon, & Asparagus Sauce, Parmigianino. The mushroom filling was “OFF THE CHART DELICIOUS”… I mean INCREDIBLE…OMG GOOD!  For dessert, we shared a Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla bean Ice cream & Hot Fudge Sauce… It was heavenly… not overly sweet…but perfectly Sweet!  We should have ordered two!

The entire Franklin staff goes the extra mile to make a pleasurable dining experience for all their patrons. If you’re planning to visit Gloucester this summer, I highly recommend dining at The Franklin… and if your server happens to be “Joe”…tell him Sista Felicia said hi, and sent you in to be wowed!  He has been my server numerous times, and I think he is by far one of the best servers in our beautiful city! I can wait to go back for seconds…
