March of the Olive and Carrot Penguins

Melissa Cox, our Ward 2 City Councilor, came to the GMG Holiday party and brought her famous penguin platter, only this time they appeared to be marching out of their fortress made of sugar cubes.

Maybe a Thaw

This is the First Period Old Ellery House on Washington Street in Gloucester, about 1930. I'm really hoping that the mild weekend weather will melt much of the snow.

Men’s Night 2013

We had a very successful Men's Night in the gallery. Lots of customers, and a good amount of sales. I had a surprise visit from my sister, "Painter Barb." Joey C. came by twice. Always good to see him. Also from GMG was Lowell Peabody, Craig Kimberly, and Anna and James Eves of Cape Ann Glicee. Big shout-out to Donna Ardizonni, who helped me clean up and get ready for this event.

The Winter is Upon Us

Main Street, Gloucester, at 5pm. Believe it or not, I made some money today. It was busy. Now all I have to do is get home without incident.

Snow photos make great content. But I just got a message from home: LEAVE NOW! internet is going in and out . . .  no phone . . .  at all … If i were you I would get my FA out of there. They just plowed here (I think she’s talking about the issue of access to our driveway). So, I guess it’s time to go. Thankful that I have a 4WD Jeep. My commute is only 6 miles to Rockport. Tomorrow, the CATA (Cape Ann Transportation Authority) bus might be good. 60 cents? Ya think? Our area, Cape Ann, is predicted to get 5 to 7 inches of snow. Maybe! If I have internet when I get home, I’ll let you know more.

They Went the Extra Mile for US

Ann and Phil have been coming to the Sidewalk Bazaar in Gloucester for at least 15 years. They are long-time customers and now they're friends. They drove down from their home in Burlington Vermont just for the Good Morning Gloucester Holiday Party at my gallery. That's quite a compliment to us all.

Gifts from the Community

Joey does the unboxing of his new swag, and here's one of my gifts from Friday night's GMG Holiday Party. Let's call it "unbagging."

Gloucester potter Marty Morgan came to the party, and plunked this down on my desk. For me!

And this is it baby! I'm not sure what those bulbs are, but I'm really glad I didn't take a bite of one of those white rocks. I only hear good words about Marty. www.martymorgan pots.com

Oh What a Night!

You all know Jenn Cullen, who's on the left. Jenn lives on the Fort, and does some work at Sugar Magnolias. The other FOB is Lidiane Sands, who's originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil. She's also employed at Sugar's, and is raising her family in Lanesville, married to a Gloucester native.

During the opening, we were entertained by the Old Folks Novice Acoustic Jam. Two or three of the players are GMG names you may recognize: Marty Luster, Len Burgess, and James Eves. Anyone is welcome to play with them. This was their first public appearance.

Um, Nothing More I can Say…

This arrived before the opening, and it was the second time Sharon and Chuck sent a beautiful floral display. I am totally blown away. They love us, Gloucester, and GMG. We love them too. The card reads: "To the Good Morning Gloucester Gang! From Florida FOB. Chuck King and Sharon Sinclair-King. More on these kiddos later,

If you get here late, this is what you'll see on the sushi plank, furnished by Lat 43. I heard a rumor that Savour Wine and Cheese will bring something.

Winniahdin?

Do you know where Winniahadin is? It's in West Gloucester, near the Castle Manor Inn. The little bridge is still there. We may see some snow on Sunday similar to this. I researched Winniahadin several years ago on the internet, and it's referenced in historical documents.

Gloucester Gets a Dusting

We only had a dusting of snow today. That's a good thing, because I haven't gotten my shovel or salt/sand bucket out yet. Mother Nature is telling us to get ready. This is Gloucester Harbor about 1930, but I can't place it's exact location. That's not City Hall in the background.

Off to the Grammy Awards!

I never quite fathomed what the Grammy Awards were, but had to research it today because someone I know has been nominated to walk down the Red Carpet in LA. This is Alastair Moock, who is a nominee for Best Children's Album. Janet used to work with his wife Jane Roper, and we've been to their house and Jane and the twins to ours in Rockport. "The album grew out of songs co-written with his daughter after she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012." Sat, Dec 7, 2013 at 4:43 PM "Many of you will already have seen on Facebook or Twitter, but I wanted to be in touch directly with you, my friends, to share the exciting news that "Singing Our Way Through" was nominated last night for a Grammy Award for Best Children's Album of the Year! We made it this far with the love and support of friends, family and, in the case of the album, an incredibly generous and talented group of musicians, engineers, designers, and other creative people I'm very lucky to know. As Jane and I walk down the red carpet next month we'll be thinking about all of that and of all of you who helped us get there. As far as I'm concerned we've already won... Love, Moock" www.moockmusic.com www.singingourway.com

Having a Bad Night?

There is a huge 53 foot truck plus to 20 foot cab stuck outside on Main Street in front of my gallery. Bashful Fred went out and asked if they'd like Gloucester Police assistance to clear the parked cars (not all legally parked). I called and the officer said they'd send someone down. I've done this a hundred times. I wish I had a care package to give to truck drivers who get trapped in this pre-1700 curve. The truck is still there at 8:33pm. Two cruisers with lights flashing. This is a difficult one. Just don't hit my car and good journey. Oh yeah, that's my blue Jeep center foreground. I really don't want to sleep here. A young girl just came in to ask if I owned a gray Toyota Prius, related to the truck dilemma. I couldn't figure out where she was coming from, so I just thanked her for trying to help.

Winter Warmer

Winter weather is on our doorstep. Last night I appreciated our pellet stove, as I ate some bean stew. I love the “pellet,” as we call our heating stove. There will be some snow and ice on the ground tomorrow, but the pellet will be burning all night. In the modern world, buying bags of pellets is better than chopping firewood, and much cleaner. We also have central heating via propane. Here is the local go-to place for heating stoves, both wood and pellet: http://capeannchimney.com/

Random Thoughts

Random Thoughts: Last night was great, but I had no internet, phone, or credit card processing. I went back and forth between Citizens Bank and Comcast. I stopped by the bank this morning, and had a sit-down with the branch VP Brian. The problem was that I had money in my account, but Comcast couldn’t get it. Brian solved the problem. We still don’t know what the problem was.

Ladies’ Night 2013

It was the traditional Ladies' Night, and they sure came out. Santa even stopped in, and here he is with up and coming painter Laureen Maher and Janet Crary. They'll both be at the preview opening party at the Magnolia Historical tomorrow: https://goodmorninggloucester.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/magnolia-historical-society-art-show-poster31.jpg

Must be coffee. Taken in front of my gallery.

As the night was winding down, Main Street was enveloped in fog. Fortunately, it didn't rain during Ladies' Night. I drove down a part of the Boulevard, saw groups of people heading home from Downtown, all holding shopping bags. It was a good night. When I got into my car it was 50º. Can't complain about that. Uniformed police were out there, but cutting parkers some slack. Looking to protect the public from those over the limit. Thank you.
