Good Harbor Textures

The beach and weather create such interesting textures and colors. It’s like a canvas for Mother Nature.

Creating a Blog

Yesterday I spent a few hours on my photo blog. If you have something you want to share with the world, WordPress is a great place to start. Being me, I always want to change things up. I had started with one theme and with the push of a button, I had a different background and format. I wanted to add some links- again it’s very easy to copy and paste your favorite websites.

It’s a creative process that you can customize to your needs. You don’t have to put it out there to the public if you choose to keep it private, but I encourage anyone who wants to try it to check it out here to get started. Have fun!

My New Addiction- Doodle Jump!!!

Help!!! I got this app yesterday afternoon and it’s got me hooked already! I can’t believed it happened. WARNING…DO NOT GET THIS GAME!!!! 🙂

Sharon’s Online Marketplace

The calendars during the holiday season were a huge hit! (Thank you Amanda, Jane, and everyone who bought one!) I’m working on the 2011 calendars now to have them ready for mid-summer. If you have any thoughts on a particular subject that might be popuar, I’d love any suggestions.

You can still get the 2010 calendars here if you need a small host(ess) gift for those late Christmas parties!

Also I have an online marketplace where you can buy all kinds of items with my Cape Ann photos on them. There are prints, mugs, t-shirts, edibles, puzzles, etc. Lots of fun stuff and more to come! Check it out for gifts throughout the year.

Here are a few items you can purchase….

If you see a photo on my website that is not offered in the marketplace, just let me know and I’ll check on its availability.

Thanks so much for your continued support!              ———Sharon

Tonight at the Rhumb Line-

From Dave Sag:
Hey! It’s gonna warm up! In keeping up  with jet stream programming, we’re proud to present our very own tootin’ Torquemada of the tenor: Mr. Andrew Clark. One of our favorites, he’ll be bringing his own brand of mayhem to our stage once again. Educator, soloist and vocalist, this guy can do it all. A snappy dresser, too.
Backing him up, we have Mr. Benny Benson, on drummbs. No slouch, he. This is a great sounding outfit.Of course, Greg T. will be there as well as myself. I might even bring the biggg bass. Do come.

I love this band!!

Kingsley Flood at the DogBar Friday January 15 8:45-close

We’re hitting up the Dog Bar in Gloucester for the entire night. That’s right, the entire night, from 8:45ish until close. That means we need to learn a ton of songs, and fast. Or we just revert back to our comfort zone of acoustic covers of Motorhead tunes.

kingsley flood is a band that enjoys making rock and roll music. the band formed in May 2008 when three guys from around boston (and one imposter) realized they all liked the same kind of stuff, and thought it’d be a good idea to expose others to it. drawing upon a variety of influences from a variety of genres, the band seeks its ultimate goal as achieving a sound resembling what would happen if the Band met the Clash in a back alley throwdown. maybe tom waits could come along with a trombone and some pizza. kingsley flood is naseem khuri on guitar and vocals, nick balkin on bass, george hall on guitar, will davies on drums and other friends on other things. if you like their songs, tell them, tell your friends, tell your grandpa. maybe even have him come out to a show. we like grandpas. Here are “Roll of the Dice” and “Stoop Cats” from the Ryan’s Smashing Life showcase appropriately called “A Night of Twang and Awe”:

What causes this?

Many readers have commented on the photo earlier this week. We’ve all seen this illusion on the horizon, but I’m not sure what causes it. What’s the explanation? Thanks in advance!

Time has come for Mr. Fox

From the Boston Herald

By Barry Thompson
Tuesday, January 12, 2010

A music scene as diverse and fertile as Boston’s inevitably produces some eccentric entities.

Even with this town’s abundance of weird rock bands, What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?, headlining T.T. the Bear’s Place on Wednesday, is a conspicuous creature. Between the group’s theatricality and its affinity for classic r & b and soul, you might not even notice the strangest thing of all – no electric guitars.

The band got rolling back in 2004, when Mr. Fox’s multi-instrumentalist ringleader Brian King and musical compatriot, violinist Nathan Cohen, had a residency at a restaurant in Gloucester. Of all people, Whoopi Goldberg was bartending at the time.Their fluid membership has made it possible to appear as a stage-engrossing dark circus or a low-key coffeehouse act. Despite the gothic presentation, their sonic aura is smooth, melancholy alt-pop that owes much to Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin, and absolutely nothing to Marilyn Manson…..To read more, ckick here .

What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?, with Molly Zenobia & the Machine and Jaggery, at T.T. the Bear’s Place, Cambridge, Wednesday. Tickets: $7; 617-492-2327.

Really dumb observation

My battery-operated toothbrush sounds like there is a Tuvan throat singer (the guy on the left) in my mouth.

Another Photoshop try

Played around with this one for a while. There are so many steps to getting a photo the way you want it! Digital photography often is as labor intensive as traditional methods.

Last weekend of the season at The Topside

From Doug Silva-

Hey everyone,

As you may or may not know, this is the last weekend we are open for the season at the Topside Restaurant. I wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped make this last season a great one! Even in this “not so good” economy, we were able to have a great year and a lot of that is because of you! This weekend we are hoping to go out with a bang. We are featuring entertainment Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. I hope you can make it over to help us say goodbye to 2009 at The Topside and see some old friends and familiar faces! To anyone that has not been able to make it by yet, I hope this is the weekend you can finally make it 🙂 i will be behind the bar tonight and tomorrow, come by early for some dinner and to say hi!! All show’s start at 8:00 here is a lineup of what’s going on:

Thursday – Ric Saint Germaine – Electric guitar, singer/song writer. He has come in almost every Thursday and supported the music. He has even gotten up a few times and did a few songs himself. Covers some of the older classics

Friday  – Ryan Fardy – Rhythm & Blues, rock and funk. He is probably the best act we have had at the Topside and puts on a great show. He’s from Boston and I’m expecting a great night there! If you can only make it to one night, I highly suggest this be the one!

Saturday – Sasquatch (Paul Cohen)- I have not heard him yet, but I hear he’s great and somewhat of a Gloucester legend. He has been playing for years and is well known.

I hope to see you all there, and thanks again for a great year!!

Thanks,

Doug Silva
