The Magnolia Historical Society Art was a great success. Wonderful artists, food, thanks to Classic Cooks and the artists and visitors. There were over 500 visitors during the weekend. Here are a couple of photos.

During the Art Sale at the Magnolia Historical Society last weekend, a Magnolia resident came in with an original coat hanger from the hotel. The following is photo plus a GMG post from a couple of years ago.
Memories Of The Oceanside Hotel, Magnolia MA In 1931 From George Krewson III.  My Dad purchased the Oceanside Hotel at Magnolia in 1931. I was 6 at the time. He kept it until 1946. Dad had no idea how to operate a hotel, having most previous experience in the building business. When the 1929 depression hit he was out of building and just happened to acquire the Oceanside by what he called “trading cats for dogs.” He and Mom learned quickly, and within a few years a guest suggested that they journey down to Thomasville, GA and have a look a winter resort inn there. They liked what they saw and purchased the inn. Each year for the next 11 years they thrived on the resort hotel business–the Oceanside at Magnolia in the summer, and the Three Toms Inn at Thomasville in the winter, Needless to say I cam to really love growing up in the business. Then came WW II and changes in all family’s lives.

Magnolia and the Oceanside, in particular, will always remain as a fond memory.

These Orange Beaked Geese for the last couple of days have been walking from the corner of Raymond Street and Western Avenue to Magnolia Beach. All four of these cuties travel together.

Pretty white horse

April 6, 2014 prettyThere is pretty White Horse not to far from my house.  I love to visit this beauty.  Most likely not a true White horse but pretty and very friendly.

From Wikipedia, White horses are born white and stay white throughout their life. White horses may have brown, blue, or hazel eyes. “True white” horses, especially those that carry one of the dominant white (W) genes, are rare. Most horses that are commonly referred to as “white” are actually “gray” horses whose hair coats are completely white.

Let us keep out city and oceans clean

Don’t forget this Saturday we’ll be cleaning up the Paint Factory Road from 10-11 am, meeting at the Paint Factory at 32 Horton Street in Gloucester at 9:30 am as part of the The Rozalia Project for a Clean Ocean Gloucester Harbor Cleanup. Bring your work gloves and wear boots. We also need data collectors with clipboards and pens. Special presentation at Maritime Gloucester Friday night from 7-8 pm free and open to the public. 7 Seas Whale Watch will be joining in the fun too–see you then!

What is Going on in Magnolia

On Sunday, April 6, 2014, the Magnolia Library held an important meeting. Bill Fonvielle, City Councilor Ward 5, facilitated this forum. The panelists were Chief Eric Smith, Deo Braga, (The Azorean, Dunkin Donuts), Tim Flaherty, (YMCA), Mark McDonough, (Serenitee Group), Eric Loiacano, (new owner of property on Lexington Avenue), and Jon von Tetzchner, Innovation House. It was standing room only with more than 200 people attending this event. It was informative, important issues were discussed, such as the Magnolia Fire Station re-opening, the new 525 Restaurant and property under development to help revitalized Lexington Avenue.  There was also a questions from the floor to the panelists.

New store in the West End of Main Street

Taking a walk on Main Street Saturday went into the new store, TBT. Beautiful shawls, sweaters, socks, dresses, gloves and jewelry. Everything in the store is from pure Alpaca and the jewelry are made by Richard’s mother in-law, the owner. Here are a couple of pictures and a short video.
