SMOKY CABARET BAND ‘WHAT TIME IS IT, MR. FOX?’ TO PLAY AT MEETINGHOUSE GREEN SUMMER CONCERT, AUGUST 17

A longtime staple of Boston’s underground cabaret scene, ‘What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?’ will rivet the crowds at Meetinghouse Green, at the corner of Church and Middle Street, Friday, August 17 from 6 – 9 pm.

In 2004 the band started as a duo with singer-songwriter Brian King, of gender-defying voice, who teamed up with violinist and trumpeter Nathan Cohen. Today, the band includes Dennis Monagle on drums, Renee Dupuis on voice, keys, and melodica, and Joe Cardoza on upright bass. They deliver their own brand of smoky cabaret, neo-soul and acoustic noir. Think of Tom Waits and Amy Winehouse playing in a French café. ‘What Time Is It, Mr. Fox’s’ latest album ‘Little Bit of Blue,’ recently released with two Boston and NYC sold-out CD release parties, includes songs accompanied by circus performers, dancers, and animation by award-winning Harvard filmmaker Ruth Lingford.

The concert is free. As with all of Meetinghouse Green’s concerts, the audience is encouraged to make free-will donations to Cape Ann Art Haven, a Gloucester community space offering art classes for kids and adults in pottery, photography, mural painting, drawing and more. Bring cash or a checkbook, beach chairs or blankets. Food is provided by Short and Main, a contemporary bistro featuring pizza, oysters, and fried chicken on Thursdays. In case of inclement weather the concert will be held inside the Meetinghouse. Parking is available on Meetinghouse Green, nearby lots, and at St. Peter’s Square.

As I was emptying the butt butlers in Magnolia the harbor looked so pretty.  Also thank you all for using the butt butlers instead of throwing them on the ground.

MIDDLE EASTERN BEAT MEETS WESTERN JAZZ AT GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE SUMMER CONCERT, AUGUST 10

A high energy evening is promised for Friday, August 10, when Hye Fusion plays at the free Music on Meetinghouse Green concert, 6 pm – 9 pm, at the corner of Church and Middle Street.

The band performs a dynamic synergy of melodies and rhythms, integrating the best of Western jazz with the beat of Middle Eastern music. Hye Fusion, an American-born trio, plays both current and traditional instruments including the doumbek – a percussive instrument commonly played throughout the Middle East – as well as the oud, classical and rhythm guitars, keyboard, clarinet, and saxophone. Their music transports us to other worlds and cultures far from Gloucester, while providing familiar rhythms and beats of jazz. A not-to-be missed concert!

While the concert is free, concert-goers are encouraged to make free-will donations to the Open Door, which provides emergency groceries to those in need; community meals; the Second Glance Thrift Shop; and a free mobile farmer’s market. Bring cash or a checkbook; beach chairs or blankets. Food is provided by The Causeway, a popular local seafood eatery.             In case of inclement weather the concert will be held inside the Meetinghouse. Parking is available on Meetinghouse Green, in lots nearby, and at St. Peter’s Square.

Late Sunday afternoon

After a very successful There’s More to Sea Art Show at Ocean Alliance, ( The Paint Factory), the sky was so awesome and there was a small cruise ship, I think it is the American Glory, leaving port.  The Beauport was also was cruising Gloucester’s Beautiful Harbor.

From The Paint Factory

Before the Art Show at Ocean Alliance we cleaned Horton Street.  It was foggy and hazy and so beautiful.  Also the Schooner Adventure was out on an early sail.

Took this from  the Paint Factory.
