Tree work

After the recent October Nor’easter, we lost an over 40 foot Oak Tree that actually split in two and went over to our neighbor’s driveway.  What a mess.  Yesterday Mayer Tree and Magnolia Tree came and did an amazing job cutting and cleaning up trees.  Photos are not so good due to the rain but amazing how careful these tree workers are.

Agape Giving Tree Magnolia Library

In conjunction with the outdoor Magnolia Tree Lighting, Agapé Brewing Community will be lighting an indoor “giving tree” on Sunday, December 8 at the Magnolia Library. Agape has partnered with Pathways for Children to supply gifts for up to 45 local children in need. The Giving Tree will have tags/ornaments each listing info about the children (age, favorite things, toy wish list, etc). After we light the tree, all in attendance are encouraged to take a tag and go shopping for that child. All gifts should be NEW and UNWRAPPED and can be dropped off at our 2nd Annual Holiday Marketplace on Sunday Dec 15 from 12pm-5pm at the Magnolia Library (additional drop off times TBD).

The tree lighting will also feature food, beer, live music, crafts, games, and pictures with Santa.

Rough waters on Monday, The Magnolia Pier looks great

On Monday about 2 hours before high tide, went by the Magnolia Pier.  You can see how sturdy the pier is built and being 2 feet higher will make a huge difference when we have storms.

Middle Street Walk December 14, 2019

It’s time to start thinking about making a Gingerbread House for the Middle Street Walk Gingerbread House Contest!!

What a fun thing to do with the family after Thanksgiving Dinner! Or during that weekend!

Gloucester 400, Our Stories Begin: 1623 through 1722

The Gloucester 400 Steering Committee invites the community to the first Signature event leading up to 2023 for an exploration of the settlement’s history with a focus on its first century, 1623 through 1722. Beginning with the Native Americans who lived here before the Europeans arrived, and ending with the beginning waves of immigration, the program will highlight the first settler families who brought the settlement forward. All are encouraged to attend and participate.

C.B. Fisk Open Shop

Rick and I love going to C.B. Fisk Open Shop a couple of times a year.  We always learn something new and enjoy this event.  This year we actually were able to go behind the organ and see how it all works.  Fascinating so glad we always go.

Update on The Magnolia Pier

Even though the weather has been great for working on The Magnolia Pier, the progress is moving along.  Yesterday the workers looked so cold but they kept on working.

Off of Shore Road on Wednesday

Here was my question:  Anyone know what this is called, it is a Meteorology term? Happens when it is very cold outside and it looks like a tanker that hovers over the ocean?   Thanks

Catherine Hull was able to answer my questions.   It’s an optical illusion. “The phenomenon is called a Fata Morgana mirage, and involves a complex trick of the light. Caused by a narrow band of light above the horizon, the Fata Morgana gives the impression an object is actually floating above the water. The mirage distorts an object, and can occur on land, sea, polar regions and deserts.”

This event is something we look forward to every year.  No matter how many times you go there is always something else to learn.  We are lucky to have this business right in our backyard.

The Holiday Shows are here

Here are a couple of shows coming up within the next couple of weeks.  Please come out and shop local.  These events are going to be fun.

Amazing surprising sunset on Tuesday

My winter obsession, sunsets.  Even though it was cloudy, rainy and snow showers on Tuesday, about 4:30 looked out the window from the gym and the sky looked like was on fire.  AMAZING…

Sunset on Sunday evening

Cold and windy but the sunset over Coolidge Point was beautiful.  The house on the point always looks so interesting.
