PRESS RELEASE:
MEETINGHOUSE BACH BIRTHDAY CONCERT TO BENEFIT UKRAINIAN RELIEF

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation will present a live concert to celebrate the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach
on Sunday, March 20th, 2022 at 4:30p.m. in the historic Meetinghouse at the corner of Church and Middle Streets.
The event will be simulcast on the Foundation’s YouTube channel and will be available afterwards for those unable to attend.
The event is free and open to the public but a collection will be taken to benefit Ukrainian relief efforts through
the International Rescue Committee.

Mary Jodice on the harpsichord and Emily Hale on the baroque violin will follow with the Bach Violin Sonata in C-minor,
after which Ms. Hale will perform a Bach violin solo. Soprano Caroline Teague will sing Bach’s β€œJesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”
and Counter-tenor Cameron Dobson will sing selections from the great Mass in B-Minor accompanied by Mary Jodice.
She will complete the concert with one of the monumental Bach organ compositions, the Passacaglia and Fugue in C-minor,

Manchester Historical Museum Spring Art Show Update

From Beth Welin, Director at the Manchester Historical Museum:

Just got confirmation from the Board of Health that we can have our normal refreshments. The museum will provide drinks (wine and seltzer), and I have a plea out to the board for someone to arrange for cheese and crackers. If you all would be willing to bring something to share, that will make the reception extra nice.Β  Hope to see you all there.

Shop local, thank you

I Am More Project

Gloucester’s very talented artist Amy Kerr sent me the next couple of events for the I Am More Project.

Dear I Am More subjects,

I’m starting to prep for the next exhibit at South Shore Plaza in Braintree (flyer attached). We’re going to be taking down Holyoke and putting up SSP in one day, so the dates to see the exhibit are March 14-April 9.

Because there are now 40 of you, and an exhibit with the display panels can only include 20, I’m going to be mixing you up at each location. This will be based on people who live closest to the exhibit, and as much diversity as possible in the subject matter. You have all been included in one of the last two exhibits at Northshore and Holyoke, so the South Shore Plaza exhibit will include:

  1. Jessica and Mila
  2. Carol
  3. Jerri
  4. Β Josh
  5. Jonathan
  6. Patrick
  7. Arielle
  8. ChrisΒ V
  9. Danny
  10. David
  11. Eliana
  12. Margot
  13. Ryan
  14. James
  15. Chris C
  16. Joe
  17. Áine
  18. Ryan M
  19. Seth
  20. Erin (welcome!)

We are able to hang portraits simultaneously in locations that do not require the panels, so if you know of schools, libraries, non-profits, businesses, healthcare facilities who might host a display of 1-20 portraits that you could help facilitate, let me know.

Upcoming press includes the April issue of Northshore Magazine, and it sounds like Fox 25 might be doing a piece from the South Shore Plaza exhibit.

Enjoy these last cold days of winter!

Thank you Amy Kerr

Roof collapse, no injuries

Reblogged from the Gloucester Daily Times:

No one was injured Wednesday morning when a roof collapse at the old North Atlantic Fish Company at 88 Commercial St. caused a wall to kick out and trigger a gas leakΒ  just after 9 a.m., according to fire Deputy Chief Tom LoGrande.

A black pickup parked adjacent to the scene suffered damage from the collapsed building. Witnesses at the scene said the truck belonged to a crewman aboard the fishing vessel Captain Dominic.

The building was vacant at the time the collapse, LoGrande said. National Grid was called and was able to shut off gas to the building. Gloucester Fire Department crews had to vent the structure due to a build-up of gas inside. Fire crews were on scene from 9:08 a.m. and cleared at 10:51 a.m.

LoGrande said among those who were called to the scene were the city’s building and electrical inspectors.

β€œI would think the building would be torn down,” LoGrande said.

This story will be updated atΒ gloucestertimes.com and in Thursday’s edition of the Gloucester Daily Times.

Day after the beautiful snow storm

It is always pretty after a snow storm.Β  The sunset was pretty with the glow of the Boston skyline and a plane coming into Logan.
