Gloucester’s 400th Anniversary: “Our People, Our Stories™”
Gloucester, Massachusetts, America’s oldest seaport, will be “400 years young” in 2023. To celebrate its past, honor its people, and welcome its promising future, the city has already begun preparations for celebrating this historic milestone and organizing the year-long celebration of its anniversary. The theme of the quadricentennial is Gloucester: Our People, Our Stories™ and focuses on celebrating Gloucester’s history through the stories of the people who lived, sacrificed, rejoiced, worked, built, and innovated together – at times risking everything — since 1623. Gloucester400™ is the steering committee established by the citizens of Gloucester, working collaboratively with the City to guide and coordinate an exceptional year of festivities.

mannor homes banner
Often times when we think of efficiency, we fall into two separate camps. The first thing is using less to save money. The second is environmental, be more efficient to reduce your footprint. I am here to make the case that the two are one and the same. That using less ultimately costs us less, which is better for our environment. Being efficient in our homes this winter means saving money, keeping your home at a cozy temperature and using less resources. It’s a win – win situation.

Replacing the Bruins’ Big Man

11/12/2019/MICHAEL DIGIORGIO

By: Michael DiGiorgio | Follow Me On Twitter@BostonDiGiorgio

Head Coach Bruce Cassidy recently shuffled his defensive lines to give some of his young stars a spark. The move sends Charlie McAvoy, the Bruins former 2016 first-round pick, to Matt Grzelyck’s right side. The long-time left-shot defenseman, Zdeno Chara, to play with Connor Clifton. Chara has been the Bruins’ staple on the blue line as their number-one defenseman, and the recent move begs the question: What we can expect for life after Chara?

Lady Sylvina Beal arrives at new Essex home…

Lady Sylvina Beal arrives at new Essex home…
The schooner “Sylvina W. Beal” launched in 1911 at the Frank C. Adams boatyard in East Boothbay, Maine, appears to be the oldest former fishing vessel in Gloucester harbor, eclipsing the 93-year-old gillnetter, Phyllis A, which is being restored at Gloucester Marine Railways on Rocky Neck.
Harold Burnham, who is doing the restoration of the classic schooner at his Essex boatyard, says, “We figure it’s going to be a couple of years before we even start the restoration, but we’ll be doing a lot of prep work in the meantime,”. “We also are looking to get a National Historic Landmark designation, which is incredibly important.”
Burnham expects the project to unfold much like the volunteer-laden effort that produced the Ardelle.
“We think it’s going to be very much a community effort,” he said.
