We have news to share concerning Outside @Manship, Manship Artists’ CoViD response to support local artists, and programming that we have developed related to the exhibition.
Manship Artists is presenting a FREE virtual Zoom series — Outside @ Manship Artists Salon — to accompany and highlight its support of 94 artists during 2020 and the pandemic and the resulting online exhibition Outside @ Manship. The salons will take place Thursday evenings beginning March 4, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
Registration is required for each of the programs. Zoom space is limited, please advise your readership to sign-up in advance at https://forms.gle/GmUtGC348cFdTyZ69.
March 4 The Inside Scoop: Paul Manship’s story
Who was Paul Manship? What brought him to Cape Ann? What did he create here? Many Cape Ann locals are surprised to learn that the artist who modeled one of the most recognizable and photographed sculptures in the world — New York City’s Prometheus Fountain at Rockefeller Center — was sculpted by an artist whose summer residence and work studio is in Gloucester, MA. The property was saved by the Manship Artists Residency + Studios three years ago. Join Paul Manship’s grandson Erik Natti, Manship’s neighbor and local house historian Pru Fish, and Manship Artists founder and American sculpture specialist Rebecca Reynolds for a revealing conversation about the man behind this local treasure with national significance.
March 18 Do you see the world inside out?
A delightful happenstance of having artists come to Manship was that some chose to paint in the same place on the grounds on different days. They worked in the exact same locations where their painter friends had painted on other occasions unbeknownst to themselves. The work they each produced is remarkably different. Join Janet Sutherland, Patricia McCarthy, & John Caggiano, three Cape Ann plein air painters featured in the Outside @ Manship exhibition as they talk about their time at Manship, their work, and how they developed as artists in their own unique way.
April 1 Inside @ Manship : Uninterrupted Time
Artist-in-residence programs give artists the opportunity to live and work outside of their usual surroundings and away from the concerns of their everyday lives. Residencies provide artists uninterrupted time to reflect, dive deep into questions that may have been puzzling them, and to produce work in a supportive environment. Manship Artists’ pandemic response — Outside @ Manship — was designed to bring local artists from Cape Ann to the grounds of Manship for a little while as a respite during COVID. Come celebrate the first day of National Poetry Month with us! Meet two poets who benefited from time at Manship as they share what happened while they were there. Cantabrigian Charles Coe is the author of three books of poetry and an adjunct professor of English at Salve Regina University. Poet Monica Manoski is an artist, community organizer, Reiki practitioner, and the Executive Director of the Essex Art Center in Lawrence, MA. Her first book—a collection of poems and black and white film photography titled sisters in this ritual was just released.
April 22 I know what I like!
Artists give us an opportunity to see things differently, in ways that are engaging, unexpected and perplexing. Our view of the world can be turned upside down and inside out by looking at artwork of a place that we may recognize, but which is rendered in such a way as to invite us to look again. Join three Outside @ Manship artists as they talk about the way they see the world. Heidi Caswell Zander in an artist member and President of The Rockport Art Association & Museum, where she also is involved with its Experimental Art Group. Award-winning experimental artist and wearable art clothing designer Donna Caselden maintains studios on Cape Ann and Napa Valley, CA. The recipient of a 2020 painting award from the Mass Cultural Council, Andrew Fish was one of the first resident artists at the Manship Artists Residency + Studios in 2019 and currently teaches at MassArt and Lesley Art + Design.
BACKGROUND:
The virtual exhibition and complementary programming are a celebration of the work produced by artists who participated in Outside @ Manship. This program was created in response to the Covid pandemic, to provide a place for artists living and working on Cape Ann to be for a little while on the beautiful grounds of the Manship Artists Residency + Studios (MARS) in the summer and fall of 2020.

RAZE’ the Roof Cabaret!
A Fundraiser to benefit the Annsiquam Village Hall Roof Restoration
The Annisquam Village Hall is a building that is extremely near and dear to all of us- it is the Heart of our Community. Since its construction in about 1828, the hall has watched the tide come and go nearly 140,000 times. It has witnessed six or more generations grow up nearby. It has hosted joy and sorrow, weddings, funerals, dances, political rallies, solemn and serious lectures, lighthearted frivolity, theater, and more. It has sheltered a sail loft, multiple stores, our local post office, our library, the Leonard Club, and other social organizations now lost to memory. Its owners have altered it, enlarged it, changed some of its windows and many of its doors. It is always just there, sort of like Squam Rock. After serving the village for nearly 200 years, it needs some help from the village.
Join us on Saturday, February 27, 7pm, as your friends and neighbors attempt to make you smile, laugh- maybe even cry (or roll your eyes)! You will certainly see some familiar faces!
The suggested Donation for the event is $20, with Sponsorships available and Contributions most Welcome! You will access the show on YouTube- more information available when you register on our website.
Please remember that all monies collected from the Cabaret, will go to the reconstruction fund for the roof of the Annisquam Village Hall.
I hope you will consider supporting us as we support the Annisquam Village Hall! The Village Hall is our Village Home- Under this roof we build Community.
Thank you!
“Dexter was frantic. He was bouncing between my lap and my husband’s lap. He clawed at the floor – he was trying to get under the dashboard,” Dee explained.
Dee, her husband, their three-year-old and poor Dexter were on what should have been a seven-hour trip to Vermont to have Thanksgiving with family. Dexter was so upset that it had taken eleven hours to complete the first three hours of driving.
“We finally gave up and went back to New Jersey and had Thanksgiving with our neighbors.”
Dee doesn’t know why these panic attacks started when Dexter was seven years old. He was fine on a five-day drive to Oregon a couple of years before, but now Dexter constantly panted and drooled when riding in the car.
He also started getting so anxious during thunderstorms that he would scratch the walls and make so much noise that it would wake…

Is it your dream to find your forever home on Cape Ann? I’m Katelyn Ciaramitaro and I’d love to sit down with you to discuss your housing wants and needs in our beautiful community.
If you’re considering a move here, or are considering listing your property for sale, feel free to fill out this form and I’ll contact you to discuss how we can make that work together.
You can follow me for updates on local real estate trends at https://www.facebook.com/katelynevbythesea
As a lifelong resident of the North Shore, I love all that our area has to offer. Growing up in Hamilton, I enjoyed living in a small cul-de-sac neighborhood where seeing horseback riders in the woods of my back yard was a common occurrence.
Soon after graduating college, I began my career in travel as Sales Manager for Unique Vacations Inc., Worldwide Representatives of Sandals and Beaches Resorts where I was named Sales Manager of the Year for the Northeast Region. As my love for travel developed, I decided to continue my career as the Regional Director of Sales for AIC Hotel Group representing resorts in the all-inclusive and luxury market. The best part about working in travel is connecting individuals and families with their dream vacation. In real estate, I will continue to make dreams come true by matching you with your dream home.
I currently live in Gloucester with my husband Joey Ciaramitaro of Good Morning Gloucester, my son and step-daughters. Gloucester provides its residents with not only the serenity of the ocean but with diverse restaurants, small shops and a magnitude of history. My favorite part about living in Gloucester is jumping on our boat, cruising down the Annisquam River and ending the evening by boat at any one of our favorite restaurants. Gloucester is truly a magical place to live. I look forward to welcoming you here.

We’ll do the Disney routine for one more week per requests from a number of students. Next week we will revisit our Blusey Country routine.
This Disney routine focuses on the hands and feet. The body parts we take the most for granted, until they are painful.
So join us and we’ll have fun singing and dancing to Disney Songs. Here’s a sneak preview of one of my favorite finds, an a cappella version of“I Wanna Be Like You”from the Jungle Book sung by DCappella.
For Restorative Yoga, find some cushions, large books, yoga blocks, blankets, whatever you can use instead of bolsters and blocks. We make it work. For more information on Restorative yoga, check out my site, niawithlinda.com. It is a lovely passive practice that gives the participant relaxation and calm. Who couldn’t use that right now.
