My Happy Place From Jackie Bennett

My View of Life on the Dock

Our beautiful Gloucester helped me cope with the tragedy of 9/11 when I needed a break from the tv coverage. I went to Flat Rocks and wrote the song in this video 20 years ago. Good Harbor beach this week at sunrise with the surfers seemed like a perfect soothing scene to go with this recording. My hope is that this music video brings peace to all that are suffering today.

Haute Couture Returns to Hammond Castle Museum with Display of
Mario Fortuny Gowns Throughout September
Gloucester, Massachusetts – Hammond Castle Museum is excited to announce the return of its very special “Fortuny At The Castle” exhibit. Throughout the month of September guests visiting the Museum will have access to view the two vintage, Mario Fortuny gowns. Dated between 1920 and 1930, the gowns are made in Fortuny’s “Eleonora” Renaissance style and feature hundreds of silk pleats, Venetian glass beads, and hand printed velvet.
The saying ‘it was right under our noses’ is an understatement when it comes to the identification of these two antique gowns created by the famed Italian fashion designer, Mario Fortuny. For decades the two delicate pieces of printed velvet sat folded on a display shelf behind plexiglass in the Museum. It was the astute eye of a visitor in 2019 that led to the discovery that these garments that sat unobtrusively just out of view for so long, were in fact rare and important pieces of fashion history.
The gowns went on display for the first time in decades in September of 2019. The gowns were a modern design for the time, that borrowed from not-so-modern historical styles. Hammond himself was a modern inventor with a penchant for antiquities and castles, so it is not surprising that he and Irene were admirers of the designer. We are excited to bring these gowns out again for visitors to enjoy!
Hammond Castle Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is not handicapped accessible. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the building, grounds, and legacy of John Hays Hammond, Jr. It is open daily through the end of October and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in November and December. The Museum offers numerous educational and cultural events throughout the season and is available for private and corporate rentals. It is located at 80 Hesperus Avenue, Gloucester, Massachusetts. I’m submitting to you a new portrait I’ve done that I hope you’ll like and will consider posting in the next edition of Good Morning Gloucester Magazine. I named the portrait “LET THERE BE LIGHT.” It’s done in gel pen and pencil.
Let me know what you think!

We’re very excited for Max and his team.

The design was all wrong. The kitchen was too small. There wasn’t enough room. That’s what the people were saying about buying this home in Ipswich. Everyone warned them. Everyone was wrong.

Still a few shirts left! Order yours today to support our team mate Callum in his fight agaist cancer!
