Seaside Garden Club welcomes speaker Chris Sellew of Little Leaf Farms (https://www.littleleaffarms.com/), on the topic of Food Sustainability. Little Leaf Farms was founded to make locally grown, great-tasting lettuce that is available year-round. Taking inspiration from the best produce-growing systems in the world, they developed a 10-acre greenhouse in 2015 to make this vision a reality. Chris will discuss their growing practices and commitment to sustainability.

Seaside Garden Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the Manchester Community Center, 7pm social time, 7:30pm program starts. Guests are welcome for a $5 fee.

Gloucester’s Holiday Parade is on once again after a 2-year Covid hiatus. The parade will kick off on Sunday, November 27th, at 3:00 pm from the State Fish Pier. The parade route travels down Parker Street to Main Street, and then down Western Avenue to the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Kent Circle.

Gloucester’s Holiday Parade is on once again after a 2-year Covid hiatus. The parade will kick off on Sunday, November 27th, at 3:00 pm from the State Fish Pier. The parade route travels down Parker Street to Main Street, and then down Western Avenue to the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Kent Circle. 

Organizers are looking for floats, groups of enthusiastic marchers, school groups and musical entertainment. The only requirement is that the entry have a holiday theme. Entrants will be eligible to win a first, second or third place trophy. Mayor Greg Verga will lead the judge’s float this year. 

This year’s Grand Marshals are going to be the 60 members of the Gloucester Rotary Club, who will be celebrating 100 years of service to our Gloucester community.

The parade will end up at Kent Circle for the Gloucester Tree Lighting Ceremony which will take place at dusk. Following that, Santa will be available in his sleigh for picture taking.

GHS Baseball Open Door Pick Up

Hello,

I’m not sure if your blog is an appropriate spot for this, but I figured I’d give it a shot. I coach the Gloucester High School baseball team and I like to get the players involved in things outside of baseball. Last year, we collected over 700 pounds of food to donate to the Open Door in one day. 

I am wondering if you could mention that players will be driving around Gloucester on Thursday 11/17 after school to collect bags/boxes of donatable (non-perishable, peanut butter, cereal, canned goods, soups, pastas, etc.) foods. All people have to do is email their name and address to rgentile2@gloucesterschools.com and I will send them a reminder email the week of. 

No worries if this is not something you can or want to do, just figured I would ask! Have a great day.

City of Gloucester Ends Ban on Outdoor Water Use

 Mayor Greg Verga announces that the City of Gloucester is lifting its ban on all non-essential outdoor water use effective immediately.
The City has enforced some form of water ban for several months to protect the City’s water supply and fire protection ability during persistent drought-like conditions. With the watering season coming to an end and the weather turning colder, the City Administration has determined it is no longer necessary to extend restrictions.

The City’s water capacity remains at just 46 percent, below normal levels for this time of year.

“I want to thank all of our residents for their understanding and cooperation over the past few months regarding the water restrictions. Their actions made a tremendous difference in protecting our water supply and keeping our City safe,” Mayor Verga said. “While restrictions are no longer in place, we want to encourage people to continue to be thoughtful with their water use until our capacity returns to normal levels.”
