The 400 Trees Project What is the 400 Trees Project? 400 Trees is a three-part Gloucester 400+ sustainability program offered by Biomimicry New England*(BNE) in collaboration with Gloucester DPW and jointly sponsored by BNE & Cape Ann Elms. Additional sponsors include 100 Trees of Gloucester and Boston, and WT Rich of Beverly. The program combines history, environmental stewardship, experiential education and community engagement as a living legacy to this and future generations. 400 Trees will:(1) plant 400 native trees in Gloucester during 2023-2024, (2) identify the city’s 400 oldest trees, and (3) conduct an educational program on the value of trees. How can I help? Trees will be provided free to anyone in Gloucester that is interested in planting a tree on their property and agrees to water the tree once a week. How can I learn more about native trees ?400 Trees will offer educational programs for adults and children on the advantages of native trees —including the enhanced ecosystem services they provide. These programs will be based at the Sawyer Free Library and are offered in collaboration with the Library and the Cape Ann YMCA. For more information about this program, to donate funds for a tree, or to become a sponsor please email 400treesgloucester@gmail.com *Biomimicry New England is a501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”-Chinese Proverb- |
