The Gloucester Rotary will publish a 12-month Cape Ann photo calendar for 2027 as a fundraiser.  All profits will go to the Gloucester Rotary’s many community and international activities.

The 2027 calendar theme will be The Seasons of Cape Ann.  In Order to publish a beautiful calendar, the Club is requesting high quality digital photos that reflect the amazing beauty of Cape Ann throughout the year.  As we will be featuring one photo per month, we need images from each season:  winter, spring, summer and fall.  Photographs from Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester will be accepted.    

Full contest rules and requirements are available online at gloucesterrotary.org.  All entries must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.

David was a fixture on Main St. The owner of Main St Art and Antiques. He volunteered countless hours photographing community events and High School athletes. He was such a kind and friendly soul. A man I spent many many hours talking to about Gloucester, our families and his love for photography. He donated an incredible amount of his prints to local kids that he photographed at community events and local sports.

A great man, a good friend to many and the Downtown Gloucester scene.

David will be sorely missed.

Need Better Sleep? CBD and CBN may help with their remarkable sleep promoting properties!

When it comes to sleep, not all cannabinoids are created equal. However, here are three cannabinoids that may influence your sleep patterns:

CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound popular for its potential therapeutic benefits. One of its well-studied properties is its anti-inflammatory effect. It also possesses remarkable sleep-promoting properties due to its ability to calm the mind and body.

CBD also doesn’t make you high. Instead, it helps you relax and unwind, which could prove beneficial if you struggle with falling and staying asleep. Research suggests that CBD may help reduce anxiety, which can be a major barrier to falling asleep.

CBN
CBN (cannabinol), on the other hand, is a mildly psychoactive compound that forms when THC breaks down. It is known as the “sleepy cannabinoid in old weed” because users claim it induces sedation, which helps them to sleep.

Like CBD, CBN is often touted for its potential sedative effects. Some users report that CBN helps them fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. However, research on CBN’s sleep-promoting effects is limited, and more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.

THC
THC is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis. It can induce feelings of sleepiness and help you fall asleep faster. However, long-term, heavy use of THC may have drawbacks.

While it might help you fall asleep initially, it can alter your sleep cycles over time. Indeed, studies suggest that regular heavy THC use may reduce the duration of REM sleep, which is vital for memory consolidation and cognitive function.

If you’re considering using cannabinoids for sleep, it’s worth exploring products that combine different compounds. After all, researchers think when cannabis compounds work together, they enhance their overall therapeutic value due to the entourage effect.
