Poll: Which animals Have The Biggest Death Wish? Deer, Rabbits or Squirrels?

There is a group of deer on the golf course that I see just about every morning at 4:30AM on one side of Moorland Rd near the Golf Course maintenance building. I know they are likely to be there so I drive slowly.

I see them.

They see me.

Inevitably they leap out in front of my truck seconds before I’m about to pass them.

I can’t quite understand what is going through their brains that they put themselves in harms way instead of just staying there. Same with rabbits and squirrels but I just figure the rabbit and squirrel brains are tiny so they don’t have the processing power. Surely deer have to be smarter but seemingly without fail they leap out in front of oncoming traffic consistently.

It doesn’t really bother me that much but I’ve heard from more than one person that say it bothers them.

How bout you? I never really even thought about it. Has it been something you’ve thought about?
