Want to help alleviate the impact of hunger here on Cape Ann? Donating to help stock the shelves at The Open Door is as easy as leaving a bag of nonperishable food by your mailbox this Saturday for Gloucester AND Rockport residents thanks to local letter carriers.
Each year, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) organize the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to collect donations of food in their communities. Donations on Cape Ann will be delivered directly to The Open Door.
Most needed donations include:
Coffee
Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, and salad dressings)
Cooking Oil
Peanut Butter
Canned Tuna
The Open Door asks the community to please avoid donating anything in glass containers.
Locally, the Ipswich and Manchester-by-the-Sea post offices are also participating in this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
Those that live in communities other than Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester-by-the-Sea, or Ipswich can check with their local post office to see if they are participating in this weekend’s food drive.

In 2015 the first livestream began. Over the years, with a lot of hard work, it has grown into a great amenity for an international audience to view our unique sporting events. Each year the livestream continues to grow, and our group continues to look for new and exciting ideas to incorporate. With each year’s growth, it requires additional people and resources. To date, the organizations involved do so by volunteering their time, skills, and covering the expenses out of pocket.
Last year, we had over 170,000 live views throughout the weekend! Streamography’s broadcast can be viewed through Bridge Cape Ann’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, as well as 1623 Studios to reach every cable subscriber on Cape Ann. (You may have noticed how many local venues hosted Fiesta watch parties!) And for the third straight year, LiveNOW from Fox – a massive online network operated by Fox Television Stations – will be sharing our live coverage around the world for all three days of the main sporting events!

Gloucester is one of the locations where Energy Efficient Fisheries (EEF) is studying energy efficiency and testing innovations on fishing boats. Chandler Kemp, a marine engineer, talks about the EEF project in this video shot in Gloucester Harbor on Al Cottone’s fishing vessel Sabrina Maria.
A little background on Energy Efficient Fisheries(EEF) and its connection to Gloucester: EEF is a project hosted by Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Development Programs and led by an advisory committee representing large and small seafood businesses and all the major fisheries and gear types across Massachusetts. “The fishermen asked us for help to reduce their fuel costs and we are excited to be able to offer energy advising services to Massachusetts seafood businesses,” said Angela Sanfilippo, president of Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Development Programs.

My friends and I at wonsonrockproductions.com (based in Gloucester) created a short film called ‘A Little Human Spark’ (2024) with a local Gloucester cast and submitted it to some film festivals and it just won an Award of Recognition from the IndieFEST.com film awards out in California (Jan. 2025). It is also an official selection of the NewFilmmakers New York Film Festival (2025) as well as placing as a semi-finalist for selections in Beverly Hills, Paris, Rotterdam, Seoul, San Francisco, Austin and Sacramento. The film is a short (13mins, 10secs) and is loosely based on a true story. *A brief description of the film: “Dream Voice Solutions (DVS), a vocal coach and singer-songwriter content placement company is getting driven out of the business after 25 years by artificial intelligence. The Annisquam Village Players, one of the country’s oldest community theatres, will hold auditions at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 for its production of the Broadway classic Hello Dolly! that will be performed Aug. 5-10 at the historic Annisquam Village Hall. Auditions for ages 6-12 will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Local youth ages 6 years and older and teens who are interested in musical theatre are encouraged to participate as there are many roles and ensemble opportunities.
Auditionees will be asked to sing a portion of a musical selection from the show and read a few lines of dialogue. Copies of the musical selections, character sides, and full details can be found on the AVP website, www.annisquamvillageplayers.org.

The show is a 1964 musical that follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, NY, to find a match for the miserly “well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder.
The lyrics and music were written by Jerry Herman and the book by Michael Stewart. It is based on Thornton Wilder’s 1938 farce, The Merchant of Yonkers.
Hello, Dolly! debuted at the Fisher Theater in Detroit on November 18, 1963. It starred stage performer Carol Channing as Dolly Gallagher Levi, a role theatrical audiences of the world would forever associate with her. The show moved to Broadway in 1964, winning 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Channing.
Since then, the show has become one of the most enduring musical theater hits, with four Broadway revivals and international success. It was also made into the 1969 film Hello Dolly! by 20th Century Fox, which won three Academy Awards, including Best Score of a Musical Picture and was nominated in four other categories, including Best Picture at the 42nd Academy Awards.

Cornelius Hackl: Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. Energetic, enthusiastic, and adventurous young man who has a sweet innocence about him.
Barnaby Tucker: An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. He is sweet, naïve, energetic, and a follower.
Irene Malloy: A widow and a beautiful, smart, fun-loving milliner with a hat shop in New York. Dolly has introduced her to Horace Vandergelder but she yearns for romance.
Minnie Fay: A young girl who works in Irene’s hat shop. Irene’s assistant, she is a naïve, straitlaced, fresh, and a follower.
Ambrose Kemper: A young and explosive struggling artist seeking to marry Ermengarde.
Ermengarde: The young niece of Horace Vandergelder. She cries often and wants her independence and wants to marry Ambrose.
Ernistina Money: An eccentric-looking girl in need of Dolly’s matchmaker services.
Risenweiber: Maître d’ of the Harmonia Gardens restaurant who speaks in a German accent.
Mrs. Rose: A friend of Dolly’s from years before and a street vendor who sells vegetables.
Stanley: A young waiter at Harmonia Gardens restaurant.
First Cook: Harmonia Gardens employee who speaks in a German accent.

Judge: A white-whiskered night court judge. Easily moved to tears by romance.
