Calling Dr Leif Bakland- Can You Settle Our Debate?

I’m all about rinsing my mouth with Hydrogen peroxide after I floss and brush my teeth.  The taste doesn’t bother me and the results I think leave my teeth whiter and mouth feeling clean and Hydrogen peroxide is like $1.50 for a jug that lasts about a month.

My buddy Alicia has a different approach-

20140702_071545

Hi Joey,

Not gonna lie, I’ve been thinking about the whole rinsing with straight up hydrogen peroxide thing. I mean,  can that really be safe?

I have an alternative for you.  The Crest whitening mouth wash works! Gives you that clean mouth feeling and white teeth with out the horrible taste of peroxide!

I also use the Crest Luxe for a toothpaste! My teeth are white as if I spent hundreds on professional whitening!

Can we get a professional opinion on rinsing with straight up peroxide?

Yours truly,

Alicia Cox-DeWolfe

Dr Bakland, can you give us your professional opinion on which is a better approach to whiter teeth and a healthier mouth?

Every summer crowds gather to walk the grassy path at dusk to see stellar modern dance on an outdoor stage in the woods. This summer, Windhover Center for the Performing Arts in Rockport presents Forty Steps Dance and Sarah Slifer Swift in its Summer Dance Concert, July 18-20.

40sd arabesqueInsenser

Forty Steps will perform Creatures (2014), an otherworldly tribute that is full of animal magnetism. The work wowed the sold-out audience at the Spring Dance Concert at Nahant Town Hall; an imaginative transformation solidly based in disciplined technique and the dancers’ energetic commitment. Artistic Director and choreographer Sallee Slagle hopes the work will spark an affinity for nature among the audience as well. “We all have a connection to nature,” she said, “but in our busy lives, we rarely have time to observe and engage.” In addition, the company will perform Accord, a crowd-pleasing work created by Slagle in 1992 and returned to the repertory for the 20th Anniversary season last year.

Sarah Slifer Swift is presenting two works, Insenser (2014, premiere) and Invisible Stories (2013). Insenser, named after an NSA surveillance system, is a look at the human response to watching, being watched, and becoming data. Power, trust, control and vulnerability take the stage in a work that is at once alluring and disturbing. Invisible Stories, a collaboration between Swift and Vermont-based writer and choreographer Kate Tarlow Morgan, is a performance piece based on the idea that the book, open or closed, occupies the inner and outer landscapes in which we live. The book is a place, a body of matter and manifestation, and it is also endangered. As part of the Invisible Stories performance, an installation for one of the Windhover buildings will be on display at the start of each evening.

For decades, Windhover Center for the Performing Arts has hosted a magical scene featuring the finest modern dancers in Massachusetts, New York City, and beyond. Don’t miss this chance to see Forty Steps Dance and Sarah Slifer Swift in concert! Tickets can be purchased at http://www.windhover.org, or at Toad Hall Bookstore, Rockport; The Bookstore, Gloucester; or by sending a check to Windhover,
P.O. Box 2249, Rockport, MA,01966.

Hi Joey and Ray,
Many people love the American flags on Stacy Boulevard. As you may have heard Ringo Tarr has been purchasing along with donations the flags over the years and this year they came up short.
Because I love the flag display I decided along with  help from Adam Curcuru and Lucia at the Veterans office on Emerson Ave. we have made it possible for people to purchase and donate a flag. The purchase of a flag can also be made at my shop on Essex Ave. These flags are 100% Made in USA.
The donated flags are then held for Ringo with a card telling him who purchased it. He picks up the flags as needed to replace any worn flags.
I have attached a photo of the display that is at the Veterans office.
Thank you for your help in getting the word out.
Hope you have a wonderful July 4th. Holiday,
With sincere thank,

Pauline Bresnahan

St. Peters Fiesta 2014 Release From Chief Of Police Len Campanello

Hi Joey,

Attached you will find our release for the 2014 Fiesta. Thanks for all the work you do at GMG, and thank you to all your readers for making this a great Fiesta!

Thanks!

Lenny

Respectfully,

Leonard Campanello

Chief of Police

City of Gloucester, MA

I am so happy to have celebrated St. Peters Fiesta with the citizens of Gloucester again this year. I am even happier to report the following:

The Gloucester Police Department Fiesta Response was forced to make only three arrests (two for assault, stemming from one incident, and one for drug possession) and place one individual into protective custody for drunkenness this year. Overall we received fewer than 15 Fiesta related calls for service (disturbances, mv stops, lost and found property, and capsized boat.). We received enormous cooperation from the business community and, especially, St. Peters Club and St. Peters Fiesta Committee. We also had the great support of the Essex Sheriff’s Department and the Massachusetts State Police. I cannot thank the residents, visitors, and business owners enough for their cooperation and respectfulness throughout Fiesta. I would also like to thank Mayor Carolyn Kirk for her strong support of the Fiesta Action Plan.

As you know, we always evaluate police presence at Fiesta. Our first priority, always, is to maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for ALL who attend St. Peter’s Fiesta. And we can’t do it alone. This year, we had very frank discussions with business owners and interested parties, about their responsibilities in continuing to make St. Peter’s a tradition we can all be proud of. Those businesses stepped up to the plate and delivered in 2014. They are the reason for the low number of disturbances and I congratulate them on a job well done.

With the business taking such a responsible role in Fiesta, we were able to quell disturbances before they rose to the level of a police action. We were able to effectively manage the crowds of patrons at the end of the night with little more than our presence, and we believe it was one of the most successful Fiesta’s in recent history, from a public safety standpoint.

One of the most noticeable additions to this year’s Fiesta was the Mounted Unit of the State Police. We have thus far received overwhelming support for this Unit and are happy to have had them. Families enjoyed having their picture taken with the horses and their quiet presence was an effective and proactive deterrent to the historical late night disturbances.

A Fiesta that has gone this smoothly from a public safety standpoint is good for all of us. It reinforces that St. Peter’s is a RELIGIOUS, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY event. And we here at GPD are proud to do are part to keep it that way.

Respectfully,

Leonard Campanello

Community Stuff 6/30/14

Hi Joey,. Heads up in advance. I am writing to  you to let you know there is a group of 8 Aussies coming over to go Wicked Tuna fishing starting 21st July.

We are all from the same yacht Club Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne Australia.  The idea was hatched 12 months ago when we were all talking about Wicked Tuna on TV. I made a few enquiries and suggested to the team ‘ why don’t we go over and meet the stars of the show’. So we arrive Gloucester on the 20th – 26th  and we are staying at Cape Ann’s Marina and are going out with Dave Newell for three days fishing in that week.

I thought this may be of interest to the Gloucester community to show people from so far away are coming to visit your city.

Any further info you may need if this is of any interest to your newspaper let  me know.

Kind Regards.

Peter Turrell
