Hi Joey–Attached is a photo of my front porch in Gloucester on Feb. 9. The drifting was so high in front of the door that a neighbor had to dig me out! Peggy Dillon

Mayor Romeo Theken: Notice from National Grid

Good Evening Residents:
FYI from National Grid

The latest weather reports have increased the amount of snow (change from yesterday’s report) as well as the expected winds, especially inland. We can expect to have wind gusts up to 60 mph along the coast and 45/50 mph gusts inland. The temperature is still forecasted to remain very cold which helps keep the snow lighter and dryer.
Based on the revised weather reports National Grid is increasing our work force by adding resources over what was reported yesterday. We will be opening Storm Rooms in Malden and North Andover at 6:00 AM, Sunday, to help manage crew deployment. We will be opening our Municipal Room at 10:00 pm
The Room will remain open, 24/7, until we notify you otherwise.
We feel confident with our current plans for this storm.
We realize that all of our communities have been struggling with snow removal issues and keeping the roads clear and safe. If we encounter a situation where our ability to restore power is hindered by accumulated snow we may need your assistance. We will only reach out to you for help if we don’t have our own resources near by. By working together we can keep our customers & communities safe and minimize potential power outages.
National Grid has re-classified this weather event as Type 3 (see diagram below).
If any outages do occur in your area, it is imperative that they be reported via our Customer Service or Outage Reporting phone numbers (provided below). Please encourage your residents and businesses to report any outages via these phone numbers as well. Every outage phone call that we receive is logged into our outage tracking system and better enables us to pinpoint the location of the issue. The sooner that we can identify the location of the issue, the quicker we can respond.
The Customer Service Line is: 1-800-322-3223
The Outage Reporting Line is: 1-800-465-1212

Snow Cuts From Karen Pischke

Here are some fun photos for GMG. I have been seeing these amazing
‘cuts’ in the snow and came across the culprit at Corliss Landing; Rob and
the Bobcat.
How cute are they? The DPW is doing a great job trying to keep up with all
this! With more snow on the way, good to remind people only 36 more days
until spring!
Thanks Joey!

Electricity Saving Update 19- Energy Saving Tips and How To Get Energy Saving Stuff For Free

In an interview with Energy Advisor Geoff Martin:

What can homeowners do to prep for cold weather?
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but getting a home energy assessment really does help prepare you for changes in weather. There are almost always things that you can do through the utility programs that will make your home warmer and more comfortable – at a lower cost, too, thanks to available incentives and rebates.

But beyond that, there are a couple things I swear by. I always suggest people check their hot water temperature. Don’t set it above 120 degrees. If your water is any hotter than that, you’re paying more for hot water than you need to. It’s just a little knob on your heater. Carefully lower the dial until your temperature goes down.

Also close your curtains or blinds. It won’t replace an insulation job, but when we use our infrared camera over closed blinds or drawn curtains versus open ones, we do see a reduction in heat loss. Closed heavy window curtains or blinds also make a room more comfortable and slow heat loss.

For those of you who have not taken advantage of the Free Home Energy Assessment that you’re already paying for in the line item “Energy Efficiency Charge” On Your Electric Bill, sign up in this form and you will get a ton of free lightbulbs that use 10 watts of power but replace ones that use 70-100 watts and give great light, also free power strips, and replace old style thermostats with electronically controlled ones as well as water saving green shower heads.

I’ve gone from “We’re all in this together” To #Snangry @ericfisher

The first couple rounds of ridiculous snow I was all like-

“Yeah,  we’re all in this together,  there’s no sense in complaining because everybody’s dealing with it”

And now I’m just plain #Snangry.
First hearing the term used on Twitter by CBS meteorologist Eric Fisher a couple of days ago,  but now completely filled with #Snanger.

It’s a real thing for sure.  When you’re completely fed up with the relentless white stuff and can’t get past it,  you’re #Snangry
I wonder if there’s someone I can talk to about it,  because I just can’t get past it.  Perhaps there’s a #Snanger management group that meets in the basement of a local church or something.  IF ANYONE KNOWS OF SUCH A GROUP PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  CAN’T SEEM TO SHAKE THIS ON MY OWN.

Joey C #1 Valentine’s Day Gift For A Man Or Woman- UGG Ansley Slippers

QuickMemo+_2015-02-11-16-15-59_1

They are a luxury that may seem expensive only until you put them on.  From that point on you will understand completely.  You will be praised for years.  Thank you Cynthia Hill for the suggestion way back when I asked.  They are among my very favorite things along with my Restoration Hardware Robe.  No-brainer City.

Does A Guy That Sends His Girlfriend A Teddy Gram For Valentine’s Day Deserve A Kick In The Nuts?

I was watching the infomercial this morning and thought to myself what a shitty gift.  Unless the girl is under the age of 16 I just can’t think of anything worse to clutter up someone’s joint.

You may have read  Terry Weber’s piece on great gifts for men,  this is like the exact opposite, and for women.
Ladies,  in the comment section  leave your suggestions for good Valentine’s gifts for women and more importantly- some of the worst.  Leave out the obvious vacuum cleaner,  scale and ironing board.
