Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken Announces Partnership with Web and Mobile Citizen Reporting Platform

Gloucester will use SeeClickFix to improve quality of life and encourage civic participation

Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken today announced that the City of Gloucester has launched a new program that will allow residents to report quality-of-life issues and request municipal services through an online and mobile interface. Powered by SeeClickFix, the place-based reporting platform allows Gloucester residents to document neighborhood concerns and improvements, ranging from litter or flooding to damaged sidewalks and malfunctioning traffic signals.

“Gloucester is proud to provide the community with an easy-to-use web tool that helps them access services and make positive changes in the community,” said Mayor Romeo Theken.

With the online and mobile reporting platform, residents can report quality-of-life concerns through service request categories via the City of Gloucester website, mobile applications (e.g., iPhone and Android), a Facebook App, and the website SeeClickFix.com. The platform allows Gloucester residents to provide locations, descriptions, and photos of any issue, in real time. Once a resident submits a concern, the platform issues an alert that becomes public information available to any resident. This will allow the City of Gloucester to acknowledge a service request, route it to the proper department and update the request as needed, including after the matter has been resolved.

The platform also allows Gloucester residents to view, comment on, and vote to fix problems that are submitted by their neighbors. Citizens can even create their own “watch areas” to receive notifications about any category of issues in their community and subsequently follow the progress of all related service requests—not just the one they reported.   Reports can be submitted and tracked from the City of Gloucester website directly (gloucester-ma.gov.) Residents will also find links to download SeeClickFix mobile applications on the City’s website.

Update! Joey C- Obsessed With Purchasing A Kettle Charcoal Grill- Pulled The Trigger!!!

Update: I got a STOK 22.5 inch Charcoal Drum Grill for $129. The reasons I got this particular grill was that it had many more features than the Weber version including the thing I really wanted which was the Cast Iron cooking surface. To get a Weber with similar features it would have cost $198- $149 for the grill and $49 for the cast iron grate. Video review will be upcoming.

5Great upgrade for the Weber Kettle
By The Buddy
I am a die hard Weber fan. I own 9 of their grills in various configurations, 2 of which are 22.5 inch charcoal grills. Imagine my surprise to find that another company makes an upgrade for the classic Kettle that is better than any offering from Weber themselves. This piece is exactly what the Kettle needs in every way. The cast iron is very solid and looks as if it will last as long as the grill. It is quite apparent to me that Stok did their research when designing this piece. The center opening is a perfect size for the large Weber Chimney starter to sit inside directly on the charcoal grate while brewing up coals. It is also the perfect size for dumping said charcoal. I feel the grate is the proper thickness, as anything thicker would add weight which most likely would bend the supports in the kettle. I also have not had any problems with the center shifting once it is put in place. Perfect fit, cast iron durability, and all for the price of 2 Weber steel grates, so what’s not to like? I did spend the extra for the Stok SGA1000 Insert Removal Tool and it was well worth the money IMO. Makes removing the center piece to add hot coals a breeze. If you love your Kettle like I do, treat yourself to this nice upgrade.

The power of community! What a memorable gala for ACTION, INC’s 50th milestone!

Cat Ryan submits-

This anniversary inspired a very special evening for the 2015 Annual Meeting: a tribute to all of Action’s staff for so many years of dedication, engagement and –well 50 years says it all- sustainable programming!

Last night, the curtains were drawn at Shalin Liu Performance center, the massive screen dropped and we were treated to this short, great tribute video. Look closely at the old photos and history of Action, Inc. Write into the comments below if you can name the four people involved with Action in 1965. We’ll see if you’re right.

Kudos to the movie crew:

Jessica Benedetto, Action’s Director of Marketing & Planning

Megan Merlin, Action’s Project Coordinator

Grieg Cranna, Photographer

Adam Kooken, Videographer, Montserrat

Jessica and Megan organized the event. Willow Rest rocked the food. Speaking of rock, we were treated to the happiest musicians ever. Perfect sound and coolest set from Dan King and friends, with Erika Van Pelt adding powerful vocals.

Executive Director, Tim Riley, is retiring this year. He received the Lyndon Baines Johnson War on Poverty Award and promptly shared the award right back with everyone else.

How Bout the Pair Of Balls On this Hazey Daizey Chick?

What kind of psychopath holds a bat in their hands?

I ever get a bat in my house, here’s what I’d do…

I’d go to the hardware store and buy a couple sheets of industrial strength plywood and cordon off the room in which the bat was last seen never to set foot in that room again.  Just totally write off the use of that room forever and ever and a day.

New Shade Tree At Cripple Cove Pleases Bob Driscoll :)

Hey Joey  Going passed The Ben Smith Playground at Cripple Cove, I noticed a new shade tree has been planted.  Most awesome thing for the residents of Gloucester to be doing.  The quality of life always improves where trees are nurtured.  Thought I would share the tree with you and your viewers.  Keep up the good work Gloucester,  Bob Driscoll

Why I Relay…

Hello Joey!   On the Relay for Life of Cape Ann we have been posting testimonies of people who relay and why…I was wondering if you would be interested in posting some of the testimonies on your blog to generate some excitement for the upcoming Relay for Life of Cape Ann at Burnham’s Field June 20th from  12:00 noon to 10:00 pm.  I am attaching my testimony below for your consideration.  Thanks for your continued support…We really appreciate it….JPEG is my son on Cancer Survivor’s Day 1997
Why I Relay:
The true meaning of a heartbreak:  I had boyfriends in my teens that I thought were the end all and be all….when there was a breakup I would cry for days feeling heartbroken.  I had a failed marriage, when that ended I felt broken hearted….What I didn’t know was the real feel of a heart break that happened on August 1st 1996 when my now husband, Dan got a phone call that the lump they removed from our 4 year old son’s chin was in fact Hodgkins Lymphoma…I still remember that pain like it just happened….and the fear… the unknowing….then slowly the mending…people coming together, family, friends, people I didn’t even know.  The random acts of kindness, someone holding your hand as you cried, the prayers and the love!!!! My son Travis is now 23 years old and celebrating 19 years remission.  Apiece of my heart is still chipped away, as everyday I think of cancer, everyday I fear it’s return…. I relay for the random acts of charitable kindness, the friends, the family, the love….and that some day…. some day..No other parent will feel that heart break.
