There will be an open house at Rose’s to wish Pete well in his retirement Thursday and Friday from 7AM-5PM.
Saying that Rose’s is one of the most integral parts of the Gloucester waterfront and that Pete along with Marty and Frank Rose have been there from the beginning is absolutely without question no exaggeration. Of course Rose’s will continue on just fine when Pete retires but the knowledge base he takes with him is a treasure. I can say from the thirty plus years I’ve walked through those doors, the guys like Rusty, Frank, Frank, Pete and Marty have never once failed to execute and get our business up and running and all with a positive friendly attitude. An icon from the Gloucester waterfront has earned his retirement, best of luck to you Pete, we all wish you the best that life has to offer in retirement!
An Offer To All #GloucesterMA Election Candidates:
![]()
As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.
The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.
Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.
In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.
As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.
Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.
Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.

Cigarette butts are right up there as the most common and yucky litter. Gloucester offers a quick ride right into our ocean waters. We were required to clean our sidewalk daily in front of our business or be fined. Some smokers would flick one right in the midst of our dustpan and broom without missing a step.
Smoker trash is just an unfailing source of __________. You fill in the blank. There’s a big blind spot.
Business owners, employees, property owners, tenants: a lot of what we pick up downtown are piles of the same cigarette brand. Case in point:
Award for BUTT FIEND on Parsons goes to a proud Parliament smoker. Residents including kids are out here with gloves picking up your butts. We’re not talking the random passerby flick. We’re talking regular and routine breaks where you just sit there dropping.
Big shout out to Dan Leaman and Mike Carter today with Dan Leaman Landscaping. Thank you for coming back again to help with Parsons Street.
In life, look for the helpers. Donna Ardizzoni, Patty Amaral, and many volunteers –See Donna’s post for this Saturday’s clean up

If a candidate is not able to create a video to submit, then that speaks in my opinion to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government. If a candidate doesn’t read GMG or doesn’t get the word about this opportunity then that also speaks to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government knowing the reach GMG has.

Dear Joey,
Here’s a link to a video shot by Henry Ferrini at the most recent Fish Tales, the Gloucester Writers’ Center story telling event. Our pal Ron Gilson, the last living person to have fished aboard Adventure, told his story to about a hundred listeners on deck and on Webster Pier at Maritime Gloucester. We had nine other story tellers and their stories will be available at http://www.gloucesterwriters.org.

World Ocean School, in partnership with Proctor Academy, will depart Gloucester on Thursday with twenty-one students bound for nine-weeks of education at sea.
It’s year number two of a partnership between New Hampshire’s Proctor Academy Ocean Classroom and the Boston-based World Ocean School. On Thursday, after schooner Roseway will board twenty-one high school students at Maritime Gloucester to begin a nine-week expedition culminating in San Juan, Puerto Rico late November.
Juniors and seniors from Proctor will step aboard Roseway prepared for a fall semester of nautical history, maritime literature, marine sciences and navigational mathematics all underway. Along the journey down the eastern seaboard and into the Caribbean, Roseway will make port stops where students will engage in community service projects. Students will practice “ship, shipmate, self” as they face and overcome numerous challenges.
Not only does the revenue from this partnership fuel World Ocean School programs for underserved populations throughout the rest of the year, but it connects Roseway with a school that is renowned for its commitment to experiential education for students of all backgrounds, fostering a collaborative and productive community.
“As a mission-driven organization that believes strongly in effective community-building, we are thrilled to be working with Proctor”, says Abby Kidder, President of the World Ocean School. “We have a lot to learn from them and at the same time, a lot to share from our own experience with education at sea.”
To follow the students’ experiences at sea, keep an eye on Roseway’s Ship’s Log atwww.WorldOceanSchool.org.
