My View of Life on the Dock
Tuesday – 7:00pm until 10:00pm
Please join us to celebrate the release of Chelsea Berry’s newest full length album, “Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”.
The new record is “energetic and wild and has its moments of epic orchestration while the lyrics send the message of the story of human struggle and love and loss and all that stuff I love to write about and people can relate to.
I am really excited about this album because it’s going to be a whole new side of the music- and a whole new side of me. Growing and changing and not being afraid to leave it all out there– without losing that familiarity and approachability that’s so central to me as a performer.”
The CD will be available for purchase and there may even be a couple of impromptu performances.
Also, on Friday and Saturday, Febraury 8th and 9th, Chelsea and her spectacular group of players will perform at The Shalin Liu Performance Center. There are still some tickets left for Friday night’s performance. Don’t miss it!

Kingsley Flood’s love affair with Gloucester continues when they return to the Rhumbline THIS Saturday, February 2nd, to debut their new CD BATTLES. Hot off the press, three songs have been premiered by Rolling Stone, Magnet, MTV Buzzworthy, and American Songwriter in the past three weeks.
Kingsley Flood won the 2012 Boston Music Award for Best Americana Band, but their new CD defies the genre. An energetic hybrid of roots rock, folk, pop and punk multi-instrumentation fused with lyrics that dig deep in universal truths, sets this band apart from the rest. They combine fiery musicianship and addictive songwriting with electrifying performances that have earned them the moniker “best live band in Boston” by the Boston Herald while burning up the stage from Burlington to Washington, D.C.
The CD will be available for purchase at the show BUT should come with a warning label: This is an addictive substance! As HubARTs reviewed, “There’s an abundance of big hooks and little grace notes that will lodge these songs in your head.”
So come out Saturday night to witness a special happening as Kingsley Flood is sure to springboard from the Rhumbline into the rock stratosphere soon as the whole world seems to be waking up and taking notice. See what others have had to say recently:
“Through smart songwriting, effortless arrangement and most of all total conviction, Kingsley Flood managed to turn out one of the most aggressively entertaining sets that anyone will be delivering in 2013 or possibly any year. A flirtateous comingling of Americana, punk and folk provides the backbone to their music on record and in a live setting that mix is turned up to eleven.” ChunkyGlasses
“Kingsley Flood’s Americana-rooted offerings is the kind of music for every man, rich or poor, beloved or bereft, believer or unbeliever. And like all genuine American articles, this spirited band is equal parts rough-and-tumble country and brazenly unbridled rock.” D.C. Music Download
“…all rusty mic’d vocals gift-wrapped in barbed wire. One battle we bet the band didn’t fight: that opening guitar riff. George Hall’s (Gloucester’s own) plays like a kid opening Christmas presents — with a machete.” Rolling Stone
“the latest sneak-peek from Kingsley Flood‘sBattles, is sure to knock your ass to the floor.” Last Stop Wonderland
“So you haven’t seen Kingsley Flood yet? You haven’t witnessed their brand of Americana Grind – equal parts Country, Rock, Blues, and Post-punk Americana…This is just about as good as it gets right now.”
Ryans Smashing Life
Boston rockers Kingsley Flood have been dubbed “a Rolling Thunder Revue with a punk rock sneer” by their local music press. The six-piece band, who in 2012 were named Americana Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards, will release their second album, Battles, produced by Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Langhorne Slim, David Wax Museum), on February 5.
On the sonically heady, Elvis Costello-esque Battlestrack “The Fire Inside,” the Flood examine a relationship that’s slowly falling apart.
“I tend to write from the point of view of people with pretty questionable character — too proud, stubborn, arrogant — and because I’m the one singing, I’m waiting for the day when someone comes up after a show and calls me a jerk,” songwriter/vocalist Naseem Khuri explain. “The guy in this song belittles his girlfriend to control his relationship, and of course he has no clue why it goes south. The extended solos and guitar freakout in the middle of the song were a result of a negotiation with our producer Sam, who conceded ‘you guys are allowed only one ’70s jam on this album and that’s it.’”
A note from Kingsley Flood,
Very excited to kick off this weekend with a song premiere in American Songwriter Magazine. The song – ‘the fire inside’ – is a bit less all-out rowdy than the other tunes we’ve shared lately, rather it’s “sonically heady, Elvis Costello-esque.” And still, we couldn’t resist a total guitar freakout in the middle. We hope you enjoy. with Naseem Khuri, Barrett Chris,Nick Balkin, Travis Richter, George Hall and Jenée E. Morgan.

Bio as seen on REVERBNATION
Wilkins is a multi-instrumentalist living on Boston’s North Shore. He writes and records his own music at Rocky Top Studios in his home town of Gloucester MA. Wilkins’ songwriting has influences too numerous to mention, but Jerry Garcia, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright along with some more obscure artists like Scott Matthews, Bonnie Prince Billy (Will Oldham), David Johnston and Greg Brown are a few that continuously inspire him to write.
If you haven’t heard Joe and Luke yet. Brave the cold and give yourself a treat.
If you are lucky I am sure you will be. They may play some of these songs for you.

Dave says,
Let’s welcome back that evil gal herself: Ms. Michelle Willson. The Divine Miss W has been busy feeding moral fiber to the great unwashed. Now, it’s our turn. And she’s bringing heavy artillery with her. You want Dinah Washington? You got it. This gal has razor blades in her uvula.
We’re dragging in Mr. John Hyde, jazz snob, and longtime glitarist, Mr. Mike Miele, along for the ride. All stirred by Mr. Jeff Casper, the friendly drummer, on slings and arrows. Bring a geiger counter.
And, for a real treat, why not cross the river Kwai and head down to Beverly Wednesday evening for the meeting of the spirits at Chianti Jazz Club and beastro?? It’s the return of that gootar giant, Mr. Duke Robillard with henchmen Mark Earley on sax, bassist Brad Hellen and drummbler Chris Rivelli, who did such a great job last week playing with us. Maybe Ill see you there.

Many of you know that Dan King is out on the west coast for a few months. He left last Tuesday. We had the pleasure of him playing at the jam the night before he left.
The Bandit Kings (that Dan King is the lead guitarist in and shares vocals with AnnMarie Shimanoski and Renee Dupuis, Dennis Monagle and Joe Cardoza) have been the host band for well over a year, if I am correct.
*Looks like I stand corrected on that one. It’s been three years. My how time flies when you are having fun. Thank you Joe Cardoza for pointing that out.
It has been the best time and I have grown to love them not only for their music but for who they are. For me, if I had to choose between a night of the week to hear live music Monday would be it. So many players come out old and new and get together to let loose. There have been many nights that magic has been an understatement.
I think that in maybe four years I have missed two jams. One due to being sick and the other being away on vacation. That’s how awesome it is.
Dan King turned me on to the jam many years ago. He was playing at an open mic with Fly Amero on Wednesday and I was blown away. They did some Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin songs (never was much of a Pink Floyd fan but am now).
Dan said if you like that sort of thing you should come out Monday and the rest is history. I am not alone, there are some real die hard fans of the Monday night open jam. I have heard it said that Monday is the new Friday and it’s true.
Mark Pelosi was the first host of the new open jam two weeks ago in Dan King’s absence. Me being a creature of habit and wondering how anyone would fill Dan’s shoes (and let me tell you it ain’t gonna be that easy) .
When I saw Mark Pelosi on the stage, I was excited because he is the lead singer in the band Groove and at that moment, reassurance set it. First song was L. A. Woman the rest was history.
Last week Joe Wilkins was the lead host. Joe Wilkins of “The Wilkins Noise” is an uprising band that I believe will be going places. The last few times they played out they had the crowd begging for more.
Now, what I think will prove to make it a successful jam is the presence of the rest of The Bandit Kings sharing what they have learned from Dan King , who I consider “The Master” and being fair to all the players who show up to jam. Also, pleasing the audience like they have done so many times.
The Bandit Kings kept the jam going for a long time with lots of new originals and lively cover songs. Ones that would make you get up and dance. Like so many do. They set the stage for the rest and worked hard to make it the big success that it was and believe it will be.
Tonight is Inge Berge’s turn. I am looking forward to this because Inge has a unique style of music and knows how to entertain the crowd. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. As a matter of fact Inge use to host the jam a few years back. Inge is probably one of the most melodious (singer/songwriter) musicians out there and always strives for perfection. He shares his originals as well as some very popular covers. Just take a look at the thick book he brings with him when he has a gig. The crowd is never disappointed when he’s up to play.
Last week Willie “Loco” Alexander showed up to jam…… surprise yes. I’m guessing maybe it was because Dan was leaving or an extension of his birthday celebration, a day or so before. Whatever the reason it’s always a boogie woogie blast when he shows up.
It’s going to be interesting to see who shows up to host the jam in the next few months.
Just an idea of some of the players who have and do show up on an occasion to jam. Brian O’Connor, Scott Noring, Sarah Seminski, Mike Miksis,Tim Pike, Andy Pratt, Mark Pelosi, Ned Nugent, Leo Ciaramitaro, Greg Dan, Bradley Royds, Pete Lindberg, Michael Thomas Doyle, Mike O’Connell, Gary Shane, Jittery Jack, George Hall, Sebastian Moceri,Willie “Loco” Alexader, Renee Dupuis, AnnMarie Shimonanski, Joe Cardoza, Dennis Monagle, Joe Wilkins, Luke Conlin, Evie Gariepy, Ryan Alto, Joey Unis and other members of the the BF’s, John Newcomer, Marina Evans, Charlee Bianchi, Chelsea Berry, Chris Keating, Ken Cleveland, Julie Cleveland, Chris Langathianos, Jen Morrison, Derek, Dmus (Mark Mitchel), Ross The Boss, Paula Karahalis, Will Hunt, Janice Fullman, Soul Rebel Project, Jesse Ciaramataro of Qwill, Vinny Briguglio, Inge Berge, Soule Monde, Megan McKenzie, Frank Hawks, Ric Saint Germain, Ken Steiner, Brian King, Shane Bedez, Nelson Bragg (who plays for the Brian Wilson Band) Mari Martin, Rick Geraghty, Carlos Menezes Jr. and others from The Runaround and that’s not all. This list is from the top of my head and I hope I didn’t forget anyone.
So come sing, play, listen and/or dance if you feel so inclined. One thing for sure it’s always a good time.
Tonight in Essex, Ma at the ONE WORLD Coffeehouse. Doors open at 7:30 – show begins at 8pm (2 sets) . Yummy desserts – good friends.
