Hey Joey!

I wanted to get a few pictures to you with all this snow! Well, its sloppy snow but it still covered the ground out here. Most of the nice snow blows away into drifts. Hope you enjoyed your vacation…sorry you had to come back to this! -Dani Lubbers

Alchemy of Art Gallery announces Patti Sullivan Opening

Alchemy Tapas & Bistro is Gloucester’s newest culinary patron of the arts. Building on his original vision of Alchemy as a “community living room” and a gathering place for cultural creatives, owner Mark McDonough is proud to host this month’s “The Alchemy of Art” Gallery by showcasing the work of local artist Patti Sullivan on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at 5:30-7:30.

Patti is a Gloucester-based artist whose subjects range from landscapes to city scenes. Her oil paintings are an intense, vivid response to her environment.  She uses saturated hues and expressive brush strokes to create a drama to draw the viewer into her work.

Throughout the year, Patti can be found painting both inside her studio as well as outdoors. Though painting outdoors can be a challenge, she enjoys the experience of transferring the moments and her sense of place onto canvas.

Patti’s work has been recognized by Art du Monde in New York, NY, by the Copley Society in Boston, MA, and by the Rockport Art Association in Rockport, MA.  She is currently represented by ARA Gallery in Hamilton, MA.

“ We are doing this in partnership with the community and in such a way where both the artists and local organizations benefit.  In 2011 we will contribute our consignment fee of 10% of all art sales directly to the Gloucester Education Foundation, which bridges budget shortcomings in schools to continue important programs like art and music, programs that we feel must continue for the benefit of the next generation of artist”, Explains Alchemy owner, Mark McDonough of the partnership.

Each series will open the second Wednesday of the month and include an ‘Evening with the Artist’ in which the new series will be personally introduced by the artist and patrons can enjoy an evening of live music, appetizers, and drinks while viewing the art and talking with the artist. Thursday Night Blues Party at The Rhumb Line With Dave Sags ~ 9:00 to Midnight.

Our unsub this week is the one and only Steve Sadler, string genius, gargler, and poster boy for Men’s Health Magazine.  The Star of the East has risen and muhgals from many distant lands ( like Peabody) will be bringing in their caravans and refrigerator boxes in celebration of the blessed event. Steve has just finished up  a brand new CD of his own tunes, in which he’s taught a thing or two to Brian Wilson. Smooth and creamy vocals, like a frappe. Groovey tunes with real chord changes, too. Get yerself a copy. Great cruisin’ music!
Stirring the pot will be Mr. Jeff Casper, the friendly drummer, who’s been on hiatus ever since he had to bite off his own leg , to escape that bear trap. Ankles Aweigh, Jeff! Of course, Greg T. will be there as well as myselph, on base. Now, if I could only shake that cold….

Dave Sags Blues Party to Host Lisa Marie ~ 12-23-2010

OH, come all ye faithful… the Christmas Tree is lit (so is the band) and it’s counting down to that last green light of that quarter-mile.When it hits, you’re bound to quake, as the slicks screech and the hammer hangs and dem ol’ reindeer take off, hooves a-popping, bells a-rattling, ears a-ringin’ to that V-8 heat that can’t be beat. It’s Christmas time, pretty baby and to get all your noses turning red, we got the Queen of the north, Ms. Lisa Marie. She’s got the reins and the leadfoot to get ya where ya gotta go. We’ve purposely cut the brake lines for this one special performance. Hear her sing such xmas faves as “Santa’s got a lawyer” , ” Who left the grate closed?”, and “I saw Daddy kissing Santa Claus”. It’s sure to be the high point of any dead Christian’s holiday.
We got reindeer, too! The famous finger-flailer, John “Prancer” Cameron will be on the ivories. And citizen and weekend father, Mr. Steevie “Vixen” Chaggaris, will be on the egg-beaters whilst sitting on hiz own stool. Of course, Mr. Greg “Rudolph” Tee and myself will be there, too, drinking eggnog and Alka-Seltzer. Ask your doctor if Lisa Marie is right for you. Don’t look for premiums, as the cost of the finest precludes the use if them.
But, seriously, folks, Greg and I would like to thank each and every one of you who have helped to make this past year a little bit brighter. Without you, we’d be nothing. You have helped to make my  Days sunnier! So, Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings, Shalom, Kwanza, whatever, but have a merry! And, remember: live music is best!!

Sheila Jones ~ Photos of music and Gloucester events.

Just got this email from Sheila Jones a lovely female vocalist and woman, of course. She and her husband Ron sing around town at different venues. (Sheila also sings with The Honky Tonk Women).  They are a real treat to hear together or alone. They (Sheila and Ron, also known as the Sheila and Ron Road Show then Sheila and  Elaine  also know as the Everly Sisters ) just finished a 6 month gig at the Alchemy with Dan King on his Thursday “acoustic” night. Let’s see what the New Year will bring.
Hi Joanne,
I have some photos that might be of interest to “anyone” on the staff.
I posted them on Flickr and want to get them out to everyone in the community.
because I don’t know WHO a lot of these folks are, but I know they would appreciate
seeing themselves and I figure Good Morning Gloucester would be the best bet for them
to view them.  Let me know what you think.
Best,
Sheila
