I am a live music advocate and seek to share the news of bands playing at local venues in my home town. Being drawn to blues mostly but embrace all kinds of music. One does not have to go over the bridge to hear some real fine tunes, however there are some bands that draw you elsewhere. I hope this blog is a good use to you as it is to me.
Enjoy,
Joanne

The Rhumb Line ~The Geezers~Tonight @ Dave Sag’s Blues Party!
Dave Says,
Calling all cars: BOLO for possible human stelazine advocates wanted for questioning in Barcalounger theft. Suspects last seen at the Rhumb Line, waving podia and doing the Soupy Shuffle. Description follows: One David Brown, deli lama and brain stem hot-rodder, known for his witty repartee on sliiide glitar,8 foot tall with eyes to match, last seen wearing a smile and this metal tube on pinky finger. Seen accompanied with:
Mr. David Mattacks, known white-knuckler and keeper of the atomic clock, on drums. Most recently seen associating with Greg Towah, hat thief with twelve fingers, stealing Speedy West licks, and Dave Sag, crippled r&b nutcase, with doors to match.
But seriously, folks, It’s gonna be a beautiful night at the Rhumb Line, as we (as the Geezerz) haven’t played together in a long time. Now that all criminal charged have been dropped, it should be a wild evening. Come early, stay late, then go home!

Feb. 8: JOHN ROCKWELL
The Bandit Kings are back from their trip to California and they are ready to rock your world ~ Tonight @ The Rhumb Line.
The Bandit Kings return from LA all warm and Califuzzy!
The BKs had a great mini tour playing rockin’ venues like Molly Malones in Hollywood, Leo’s in La Crescenta, and Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. We were joined on stage by some pretty special friends, including Mr. Nelson Bragg (Smile, you’re in the Brian Wilson Band!) & Mr. Danny Graziani (we’re addicted to The Adicts, too).
We had some awesome roadies and would very much like to thank Mr. Skip Hart and Ms. Catherine Gunn for their incomparable company and support. Flying cross country makes you officially part of the crew. And we are quite sure it wouldn’t have been as fun without you.
We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ms. Rebecca Edelson with Lovestruck Productions for her help and general amazeballs-ness. And to Austin, for diggin’ it SO much. We dig you too.
Thanks to Molly Malones, Saint Rock and Leos…you all help support weary bands every day! And to Joe Mora, his dad, and Joe’s band for making sure we were there for the tasty naked cake. Oh, and good grief, Dawn drove down from SF and KC and Stacey drove up from San Diego, Janelle brough a pack of wild friends, Andrew, his friends, their music and the magic gong, to all our other friends that made it out to the shows, to all our friends back home who were sending us Gloucester-love, and Julia was so nice…we could go on forever. Thank you all, so much.

Check it out “Having Words With Meg” on Sirius XM Radio ~ Lots of good things happening in our little town.
Sent to our GoodMorningGloucester Captian.
Hi Joey~
Congrats on the Best Blog award for GMG.
And thanks again for the attention given to the visit with Gloucester’s “Bandit Kings” on my radio show.
As a heads up~
For the February edition of “Having Words With Meg” , globally known singer songwriter Willie Nile will visit with me at Gloucester’s Bang A Song Studios today.
He is in the area to play Club Passim in Cambridge
(tonight 1/27). And he is happy to make the trip to Gloucester to do the radio interview during which he’ll play some songs.
He just finished the annual charitable concerts in New Jersey called Light Of Day, where he performed with Bruce Springsteen and brought the money they have made for Parkinson’s research up over 2 million dollars at this point. I will forward news about this event and Willie’s involvement.
Willie also recently had the National Public Radio’s NPR Song Of The Day with “One Guitar” from his new release “The Innocent Ones”.
Willie has been making great Rock n Roll albums since 1980, always favoring the underdog. His fans include Lucinda Williams, Lou Reed, and Springsteen.
This show to be recorded today here in Gloucester at Bang A Song studios will air 4 times in February on “The Loft” – channel 30 on Sirius XM Radio. As always, some of the discussion will highlight the character and charm of Gloucester.
I will send you the dates of airing as soon as the show has been recorded and produced. He is www.willienile.com A great website.
Thanks Joey!

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to Host Willie ” Loco” Alexander
Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00
Dave says,
Well, it’s a dog eats dog world, and the first bite counts, so let’s welcome back our very own homegrown hero, Mr. Willie “Loco” Alexander, the Godfather of Punk. Yes, yes , take pride in the Atlas who holds up the entire rock ‘n roll world with his withering arms! This guy has done it all! We’re so glad he’s back with us for another dive bombing mission into the primordial soup of blues, Fats Domino, L’il Richard and his own unique brand of intestinal rock.
He’s bringin’ his boy, Mr. Billy Loosigian with him. Not only a member of Willie’s current band, but a mainstay in the Boston scene for over 100 years, Billy’s glitar practically invented the whole Boston music industry, playing with such luminous bands as The Joneses and The Nervous Eaters, to name a few. Watch out, girls, the guy is handsome and fancy-free!
Beating the skins and all odds will be that cranially polished Mr. Steevee Chaggaris, master of guffaws and Hadacol® spokesmodel. Of course, Mr. Greg T. and myself will provide all A.C. current. So, c’mon in for an artificially disinhibiting libation and watch your socks rot off. If your I.Q. is room temperature; leave it home.Free admission to the first 100 folks who show up with a safety pin through his nose!

Thursday Night Blues Party at The Rhumb Line to Host Michelle Willson ~ Queen of the Honky Tonk Blues.
Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party
Hahahah- Dave Says,
Got a big load in my pants this week, so let’s get goin’!
Firstly, Thursday nite the Rumblind is proud to feature Ms. Michelle Willson, queen of the honky blues.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=244813&content=music
Just back from a successful show at the Kapusta Festival in Lodz, the divine Miss W. is sure to beat your brain to a pulp whilst mandibulating such gooey blues as your subhuman desires demand. Man, can she sing!
Backing her up will be that jazz snob and longtime heartthrob, Mr. John F. Hyde, on keys. You should see him in his new sharkskin suit, girls; he’s quite a fashion plate. We’ve booked time at Mt. Palomar to locate a drummer, but, so far, all we have is background radiation, so, stay tuned. Of course, Mr. Greg T. and his hat will be there as well as myself, doing my best Piltdown Man impersonation since I’ve just learned to stand up again! Don’t be L-seven: get your butt out there!
And Saturday nite: what can I say? The Storm Troopers of The Good Old Salty Jazz\Swing Band march back into The Annie; i.e. the performance space at the Blackburn Building for another teeth-grinding foray into the world of the Great american Schlongbook. Led by Mr. Henry Allen, we’re all looking forward to another great nite of crooning and dancing. Hours 8 to 11. It’s a benefit for the Annie, and worth every penny of the $20 cover. Bring your own corn remover!
And for those of you who still have the strength, Monday afternoon The GOSJB (see above) will be draggin’ their blunt instruments into the Rose Baker Senior Center for yet another groovy dance party. From 1 to 3 p.m., we’ll be pulling out all the stops. It’s free!
Kingsley Flood ~ This Saturday night @ The Rhumb Line…You do not want to miss this band.
Get ready because Kingsley Flood is coming to the Rhumb Line this Saturday night at 9:30. Fell in love with this band the very first time I heard them. Do you know where that was? The Rhumb Line at a Monday night open jam with Gloucester’s own George Hall, years ago. Yee ha! They are celebrating their new “Colder Still” EP released Jan 10, 2012.

Have a listen….http://kingsleyflood.com/music/

Big Band Saturday Night Swing Dance @ The Annie
There was such an overwhelming positive response to the Big Band benefit we did last November, and an overwhelming number of people who asked that we do it again (either because they had such a blast at the last one, or because they missed it!), so here it is!
Come at 7pm to bid on some FABULOUS items generously donated by local artists and businesses (items are still coming in, so if you have something to donate, it’s not too late!).
We are also offering swing dance lessons, courtesy of Reuben Pharms and Sylvia Lessa, starting at 7:00. Live music will start at 8pm with the Good Ole Salty Swing Band with myself on vocals, joined again by our very special guest Aja Heussi!
This is going to be a magical night, not to be missed. We had a great season, but with the high cost of rent and utilities, on top of the cost of producing shows, ticket sales were barely enough to sustain us. We really do need your continued support. Our volunteer staff has made this entire season possible, and we are building toward a sustainable career for these amazing young people who are devoted to the vision and promise of this “little cultural center that could.”
If you loved what The Annie offered up in 2011 in the way of shows (Greasy Pole: The Musical, The 1st Annual TRAGABIGZANDA Political Theatre Festival, The Young Playwrights Series’ Song of the Sea, and The LobstahCrackah Ballet), our weekly Cape Ann After Dark events, our classes and workshops, and our support of local artists through The Art Parlour, and ‘The Conservatory,’ please help us keep going strong by investing is us as a community, as a business, as individuals. We need you.
In Service,
Henry Allen
Director

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host Sax Gordon Beadle @ The Rhumb Line this Thursday.
Well, this could be the best show we’ve ever put on. Somehow, world-famous Gordon “Sax” Beadle has been kind enough to grace our stage. This is a once- a-year (or less) event. Gordie is the wildest, gooiest sub-atomic purveyor of the frantic r&b style that we all know and love. The last time he was here, I had to get my fillings replaced. This guy is guaranteed to melt the elastic in your shorts. You snooze, you lose.
But wait! There’s more! At no extra cost to anyone, I’m throwing in Mr. Mark Earley, tenor and barium saxist xtroidinaire. Mark and Gordie are gonna play foozeball with their axes all night long! Pinning them down wherever possible will be that diaphanous drummmbler and Serutan® spokesmodel Mr. Edd Scheer. Of course, Mr. Greg T. and myself will be there offering first aid to anyone who needs it. Come early and stay late.
And for you folks in the joint replacement crowd, don’t forget next Monday there’s a free show at The Rose Baker Senior Center. From 1 till 3, the Good Old Salty Jazz Band performs your favorite hits from the 1920’s and 1930’s. Come dance to the boogie beat. You can even request a polka!
Check it out! >http://youtu.be/jdOMxcj_feg
