Tonight’s Dave Sag’s Blues Party will host Mike O’Connell ~ Smokin!

 Dave says,

Fur trapping season is over and we’re lucky to snag Mr. Mikey O’Connell for a ruminative blast o’ blues this week. Newly recuperating from  bear trap removal surgery, he’ll be hobbling in this thursday to regale you with his awesome originals and bluesy renditions of classic r&b. Moreover, Mr. Steve Sadler, string iconoclast, vocalist, and slide master will be along for the ride. Worse, one of our fave drummblers, Mr. Forrest “Frosty” Padgett, will be orchestrating the Heimlich maneuver to the boogy beat. I’ll be there, too, holding on to the stick bass for dear life. It’s gonna be a carpet bombing kind of nite, with little elves digging little holes and jumping around muttering muted incantations. I wouldn’t miss it even if I could. Show starts at 9, goes till midnite. And…the air conditioning is working! Thanx for your continued support!

On a special note, this concert is being held in honor of Caleigh Harrison. The Harrison family will be there toshare their story and to raise awareness about child safety.

Murali Coryell is a triple threat contemporary blues artist who can sing, write and play guitar with the best in the business. As the son of guitar legend Larry Coryell, Murali grew up around the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, & Carlos Santana. In 1995, Murali joined Duke Robillard’s touring band and was quickly signed as a solo artist resulting in the stax/volt influenced “Eyes Wide Open”. In 1999 Murali recorded “2120” for Marshall Chess in which Rolling Stone named Murali “One promising new hound”. Over the years Murali has toured with father Larry Coryell and Joe Louis Walker as a featured artist and appeared many times as supporting act for B.B. King. “Murali’s latest CD “Sugar Lips” reached # 5 in 2010 on the Living Blues Radio Chart was recorded in Nashville with Tom Hambridge producer of Buddy Guy’s latest Grammy winner. Featuring special guest stars Joe Louis Walker and Larry Coryell, Cortney Harding of Billboard called it “one sweet triptych across the musical map”. The CD received rave reviews in Living Blues and Elmore Magazines and also resulted in a Murali Coryell feature in Guitar Player Magazine. Internet music lovers can listen to the Murali Coryell channel on Pandora. The official website is http://www.muralicoryell.com

The release and touring behind Murali Coryell’s latest CD release “Sugar Lips” has drawn praise from such music heavyweights as Jimmy Webb, Judy Collins and Joe Louis Walker.
Acclaimed by Billboard, CNN, Rolling Stone, & The New York Times, singer/guitarist/songwriter Murali Coryell is a rising force in contemporary American music. As the son of jazz guitar legend Larry Coryell and author/actress Julie Coryell and grandson of TV, film and stage actress Carol Bruce, Murali was born into an entertainment family. Murali has a voice, a guitar style and a musical intuition that enable him to excel at many different kinds of music. To quote Mark Uricheck in reviewing “Sugar Lips” in Living Blues Magazine “He can play beer-soaked blues until last call, and he can also hang with more pop-tinged material-think a grittier, bluesier John Mayer.”
“Murali’s latest CD “Sugar Lips” released November 17, 2009 reached # 5 on the Living Blues Radio Chart was recorded in Nashville with Grammy nominated producer Tom Hambridge featuring special guest stars Joe Louis Walker and Larry Coryell. The CD has also garnered features and rave reviews in Guitar Player Magazine, Elmore Magazine, Living Blues, and newspapers across the United States. Murali Coryell can be seen this year performing extensively as a featured artist with Joe Louis Walker. Murali has toured as the supporting act for B.B. King and played with Buddy Guy, Levon Helm, George Clinton, George Thorogood & Gavin DeGraw among others. Murali’s music can be heard on independent, college, blues, internet, Pandora and public radio. As a performer, songwriter and producer Murali has built up a body of hook laden classic and contemporary blues, rock and soul songs that have appeared in TV, film and been covered by other artists.
Over the course of multiple solo CD’s as well as in collaboration with his father Larry and brother Julian, Murali has recorded the songs of Sam Cooke, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Charles Mingus and Marvin Gaye as well as the Chess Chicago blues classics on the CD co-produced by Marshall Chess “2120”. Murali’s voice and guitar has been heard on NBC’s TV show “Crossing Jordan”. Murali Coryell is a fully realized artist in complete control of a voice with soul to burn and the tastiest of guitar chops.

Lisa Marie to join the Dave Sag Blues Party this Thursday night 8-23-2012 @ The Rhumb Line

 Dave Says,

Thank you for flying Widow’s Peak Hairlines. We’re ready to fly over the top, under the radar, pulling out all the stops whilst pulling up the landing gear and your leg with the one and only Ms. Lisa Marie at the helm. Fasten your seat belts as we rev up the jets and burn some rubber on our way to the wild blue yonder! Ms. LM has been away awhile on a quest for gold, and we’re happy to have her back to rattle your cage. And my teeth.
Our instrument panel includes Air speed indicator, Mr. John Hyde, pantywaist, jazz snob and loving husband, on keyboards, Tachometer Mr. Jeff Casper, the  friendly drummer, on what else?, wind direction meter, Mr. Bob Enik, on glitar( a new guy for us) and check engine light basest, meselph, on the dented fender bass. You might think I’m crazy, but you keep on comin’! This is gonna be a nite to remember. Come early and stay late. Recuperation’s our most important product. Alive music is best!

Oustanding music is to be had tonight. It’s not every day that Soule Monde comes to town. Tonight~ MinglewoodTavern AtLat with ~ Dennis Monagle Sessions……..be there. It gonna be awesome

Ok, so if you did not catch Soule Monde at The Sexy and 17 Years of The Open Jam celebration at The Rhumb Line last Monday night, have no fear. Because, you can see them at MinglewoodTavern AtLat  tonight Wednesday at The Dennis Monagle Sessions.

How awesome is that. Now I’m not one who is use to listening to music without vocals. Their music is like a whirlwind of sound so exciting and enticing you don’t need them. I got their CD  and had to go out of town so I got to listen to the whole thing. It had me dancing in my seat and slightly rockin my head (didn’t want anyone to think I was having a seizure or something). I bet my son Michael will know exactly what I’m talkin about. Check them out here or go to the Russ Lawton website.
I totally love the live music scene here and all that it has to offer!

Soule Monde with Renee Dupris and Dan King……Last time they came to town a couple of years ago. You never know who may join in tonight either.

Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski from the Trey Anastasio Band bring their duo Soule Monde to join the Bandit Kings- Dan King, Ann Marie, Renee Dupuis, Dennis Monagle and Joe Cardoza

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host Greg Luttrell, Sam Hooper and Steve Chaggaris. It’s gonna be good!

Thursday – 9:00-12:00

Dave says,

Any of you who were at the Rummie last thursday witnessed the remarkable sit-in of Mr. Sam Hooper, guitar-slayer from L.A.. Well, guess what?  He’s gonna join us for a complete evening this Thursday along with his old buddy and crackerjack frontman/guitslinger, Mr. Greg Lutrell. It’s gonna be a rainbow coalition!  Greg, one of our faves, has just returned from China where he received the Sum Yung Guy Award for the least amount of noodles in a guitar solo. And he can sing like an angel! Handsome, too. Turns out that Sam and Greg are old buddies, and are looking forward to kvetching and meshing their way thru the entire canon of sweet American soul and other roots music.
I’ll be in the background cringing along with our tonsorally challenged egg-beating rhythm ace, Mr. Steve Chaggaris. I’m counting on losing some hair, myself. We’re gonna wind this thing up and let it go; see where it takes us. It’s going to be a heck ova nite. Don’t forget to re-charge your pacemakers.
And don’t forget: almost every Monday, from 1 to 3 , you are invited to witness the materialization of the Good Old Salty Jazz Band at the Rose Baker Senior Center. We swing ,we sway , we stumble thru the entire labryinth of pre-concocted Dixieland, trad jazz, and the great American schlongbook. And it’s free! EMTs’are standing by! Do come! We’ll be there next Monday. Seeya!
