| As you may know, Lanes Coven’s “As you Like it” is getting enthusiastic applause and standing ovations. Who knew that Shakespeare could be so popular! The show will be closing this coming weekend, on Sunday, August 2nd, so if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t delay. Here’s a link for tickets. It runs Thursday through Sunday at 7:00pm.Which brings us to August. There’s a saying among sailors in Maine about how to spend the month of August: “Start slow, then ease up.” Well, we didn’t follow their advice. That will have to wait until September. Because….This August there are six different dance companies coming to Windhover, who are giving nine (count -em, nine!) dance performances. That total includes two performances of the renowned Limon Dance Company (August 14 and 15), along with a free Open Rehearsal on Aug 15th), and three Quarry Dances (August 7, 8 and 9). The other companies include BoSoma, The Boston Dance Theater, Classical Indian Dance, and two contemporary NYC based modern dance companies (Alison Cook Beatty and Hollis & Nattie). | So if you are already a dance lover, this is your month! Please come to everything. And if you’re not yet a dance lover, this is the time to acquaint yourself with this most heartfelt and soulful of the performing arts. We promise it will lift your spirits and enrich your soul. And there’s more. We have two enticing music performances in August as well. Stan Strickland and his quartet will be playing “The American Songbook Revisited” here on Sunday, August 16th, and Cape Ann’s own Reese Fulmer’s Carriage House Band performs on Sunday, August 23rd. They’ll be playing their brand of traditional and indie folk music. See our website for more particulars. Lastly, please don’t forget that our end-of-Summer Gala Celebration is Tuesday, August 25, from 5:00 PM to … whenever. We’ll have the amazing Stan Strickland playing music, and a solo dancer from the Paul Taylor company performing, plus plenty to eat and drink. With your presence, it will become an evening of celebration and community — a chance to gather, honor and support the actors, dancers and musicians that make Windhover come alive each summer. Tickets are available here.A more personal note: Many of the local performing arts companies across the nation are struggling because of the lack of government funding and the overall state of the economy. We’d love to be able to provide opportunities to experience quality performing arts here on our magical campus for free. Thankfully, we do indeed offer the Quarry Dances at no cost.
