Odds and Ends — pat morss

There’s always something going on.

Memorial Day – seaweed washed up from a Northeast Storm at Brace Cove.
Memory of a veteran remained in the seaweed.
Male pollen cones on just a portion of our spruce tree.
Our Carolina Wrens are taking turns feeding insects to their kids.
A Fisher is content sniffing around the lawn.
“You’re supposed to be boreal forest-dwelling.”
Eddy egret is being harassed by a pair of Eastern Kingbirds (one at top left).
“Honest, I chose this tree to relax, not to look for your nest.”
Eddy was finally alone to fish in peace on the Audubon rocks at low tide.
Native Americans in the Northeast called the June full moon ‘The Strawberry Moon.’
And yes, this year’s harvest is large.

Another reason to slow down when driving.  This turtle was crossing Bray Street on Wednesday.  Stayed with the turtle until the turtle was safe.

One of the greatest ads for a Schooner Sail You’ll Ever Read-

🌧️ 13 SATURDAYS. IN. A. ROW. 🌧️

At this point, we’re not sure if we run a sailing business or a very niche water park with no slides and too much wind. But you know what? We’ve had it. We’re going sailing anyway. Rain or shine. Mostly rain. Probably rain. Definitely rain. You should come with us. It’ll be an experience you won’t forget.

Grab your rain jacket, channel your inner sea creature, and come sail with us this Saturday. We’ll be out there—wet, wild, and waving at the clouds like we mean it. Don’t have rain gear? We’ve got stylish clear ponchos that scream “I sail in all weather.”

☔ Dad’s sail FREE all weekend with promo code DAD25
💸 And in honor of 13 straight soggy Saturdays, take an extra $13 off all tickets with code RAIN
👉 Book now at www.schooner.org

Come make questionable weather decisions with us. It’ll be a splash.

Photos from the second Cape Ann Pride celebration

John McElhenny submits:

The second Cape Ann Pride celebration was a ton of fun.

Organized by the Cape Ann Pride Coalition and the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, Cape Ann Pride Week included a kick-off party at DRIFT, a “Pride on the Pier” dance on the Maritime Gloucester pier, pride religious services at several churches, a free bowling day for LGBTQIA+ youth, families and friends at Cape Ann Lanes, a rooftop cocktail party at Beauport Hotel, a dance for teens at MAGMA, karaoke at Harbor9 Golf, an “Embrace the Rainbow” cabaret at Rockport Music, and pride flag raisings in multiple towns.

Cape Ann Pride Week, which takes place during Pride Month in June, celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and culture on Cape Ann. Check out some of the photos below!

Update MAGNOLIA Porchfest: It is on

It’s on!! It may be cool and cloudy, but Porchfest is happening!
Not the spontaneous type? That’s okay. You can learn about the musicians performing on the porches by visiting magnolialibrary.org/porchfest-2025 or you can stop in the library for a map. Remember, the music starts at 4 and keeps going til 8. Don’t forget to bring $$ for tipping the great musicians who are donating their talent and drop some coin in the Library donation bins to keep porchfest happening. See you there!

Lovely Dinner at 51 Rocky Neck

We took the opportunity on a nice day recently to stop by 51 Rocky Neck for dinner. We were very pleased with the level of service and quality of the food and drink. It’s a nice little respite on Rocky Neck and the atmosphere is open and friendly. I tried the short rib appetizer (highly recommended even as a meal) and a chopped salad. Jim had a lobster bake. It was all done to perfection….but, oh!….those ribs……outstanding. We’ll be back soon!

Happy Friday Cape Ann 🥯🥯🥯❤️❤️❤️!!!

Open this weekend from 8 – 11 am or sell out at 1 Whistlestop Mall in Rockport. 😊
