Feather Canyons Everywhere

These made me think of Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now:

Rows and flows of angel hair

And ice cream castles in the air

Feather canyons everywhere

Thanks, Gloucester!

Three reasons why winter is the best time to test your home for radon.

About your home from Jameson at Another Level Home Inspection LLC

Did you know that regardless of what type of home you have or if you already have a radon mitigation system, the EPA suggests testing the radon level every two years? If you are like most people, you considered a test when purchasing a property and haven’t thought about it since. The EPA suggests testing EVERY home for radon. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US with an EPA predicted result of 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year. Testing for radon has recently become more popular in the US and people who have been in their homes for a long time may never have tested. One in four homes in Massachusetts has an unsafe level of radon and from my experience in testing many homes on Cape Ann there is…

Please join us on Thursday,  January 27 at 7:30pmas we kick off the winter season of GMGI’s Science Hour with Harvard University’s Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Dr. Peter Girguis.

This is not Planet Earth: Recent findings from our work on the physiological and biochemical adaptations to life in the deep sea

The deep sea represents more then 80% of our planet’s living space, and harbors some of the Earth’s most extreme environments. Dr. Girguis and his colleagues study the microbes and animals that live in these environments using “omics-informed” physiological experiments that aim to:

  • Measure metabolic activity – including carbon, sulfur, and nitrogen metabolism
  • Examine the associated patterns of gene and protein expression
  • Relate their research activity to biogeochemical cycles

Studying these communities is an incredible challenge – many of these habitats are located where pressure is immensely high and temperatures range from near…

Time Lapse Video of Bex Painting Steamers

Monochrome-ish sketch of steamers.I like to block my drafts on a neutral background n then build forms with lights and darks. As a sketch it took me about 20min to paint this 30×24 canvas.
I have rented xtudio space above Tonno in the Blackburn building through March. I plan on having my very first {gasp!} art show at the end of March before I move out.STAY TUNED!

Sunday Dinner at the Azorean

Jim and I have made it a habit to go to the Azorean on Washington St. for our main meal on Sundays. Sometimes our main meal is earlier in the day (some call it lunch time) and sometimes it’s later. Regardless, we ALWAYS feel welcome and we are never disappointed in our meals or the service. Recently, Karina was our server and we had one of the specials: haddock and shrimp florentine. YUM. Make sure you check their specials if you go. Jim had one of the pizza, which I have noted previously may be one of the most underrated pizzas in Gloucester. Thanks Azorean for giving us wonderful Sunday dinner.

GLOUCESTER – A local family is honoring a loved one today by putting dinner on the table for those in need of a little extra help.

Friday’s Community Meal at The Open Door, a heartyham, pineapple, vegetable stuffing, and mashed potatoes dinner, is given in loving memory of Charlene Acker by her husband Dennis Acker and daughter Maya Acker, and her father LeRoy Ross.

Charlene Acker, age 57, passed away in October 2021 from ovarian cancer. Today would have been her 58th birthday.

With her birthday approaching, Dennis Acker saw the opportunity for meals sponsorship on social media.

“The minute I saw it, I knew I had to do it. It was…
