Old School Hockey
Jim Douglass recently sent me this photo. While I don’t recognize too many faces (please write in if you do!) I immediately got a good laugh at the absence of face shields, masks, or cages…..and the seemingly black eye/broken nose on the player in the front row second from the left. Old school hockey for sure. Their chin straps also look like our modern days masks.

Cemetery Stroll Through Langsford Street Cemetery Lanesville
I follow a thread on Facebook that recently commented “No one takes pictures of cemeteries anymore”, and I thought “Please subscribe to the blog and follow my posts!” This is the Langsford Street Cemetery in Lanesville. It is a small, city owned, active cemetery roadside in Lanesville along 127. Most cemeteries are especially pretty in the fall, but this one has a special added bonus of looking out onto the water as well. It is very well kept and neatly arranged. There is an impressive monument to Civil War soldiers in the middle and a clear path down the center of the small area. The Guide to Cemeteries in Essex County, Massachusetts from the Essex Society of Genealogists notes the dates for this cemetery to be 1849-1959 though the City of Gloucester website lists it as active. It’s an easy stroll to view the various headstones in a quiet peaceful setting.

A great blue heron near Magnolia Pier
Not a great photo, noticed this Great Blue Heron after sunset, so it was dark. Was on the Pier and noticed this pretty heron.

Present Gloucester Back on Main Street
I stopped by the shop Present at 13 Main Street to see what there was to offer there. Boy, are there a lot of choices of wonderful items (think gifts especially) from so many of our local artists! Laurel was tending the store and she was making a decorative succulent dish to accompany the many other items in the store. You can see from these photos many familiar items along with and new work. I bought a necklace for the holidays….a gift to myself…… I highly recommend stopping by. Additional info available on their Facebook page here. Cheers! Shop local when you can!

A Beautiful Post About This Year’s Kent Circle Christmas Tree From Sefathia
Thank you Peek family. Yesterday was a sad but, beautiful day. Sally Peek laid her beloved, husband, partner, friend to rest, in the place where he wanted to be the most Magnolia Cemetery. As we celebrated Sandy’s life(great job Lisa Ramos don’t know how you did it, you were a rock) an amazing thing was happening down the street. A beautiful tree was being taken to Kent Cirle for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, which the family donated to the City in Sandy Peeks name.
We (Ringo Tarr and crew) usually go to Nova Scotia to get the tree ever year for 24+ years, last year with COVID was difficult but, this year basically impossible. You know when they say one door closes another opens..
Thank you Peek family..💖
Thank you Ringo Tarr, State Senator Bruce Tarr Ted Costa, Joanne Marks Anthony Marks, Emily Tarr and so many more Volunteers who make this happen every year COVID or not.. we as a city are grateful for volunteers like yourselves who give so much to our beautiful city.
It may be my last year as mayor excepting the tree, ( which it will be the most treasured because it’s from the Peeks a local family) but, it won’t be my last year attending, same person different title ( Me and proud of it)❤️
