I'm Marty Luster, a retired attorney and politician. In 2010 my wife, mother-in-law, dog and I relocated from Central NY to Gloucester. I hope my photographs and poetry(?) reflect my love for this place and her people. Chapter 2 Good Food and strong family: Powerful Medicine Page 13
“As always we will pray to express our thanks for the food, and for life. We are a rich people because we have each other, and because we still have our elders among us to guide us and teach us. They are the ones who know life because they lived it, and they have the wisdom reserved by the creator only those who have walked through the doorway of old age. The people admired and rewarded generosity. The truly rich people did not own the most, they gave the most.”

“Your mother is the best friend you’re ever going to have in this world, elders always said. When she’s gone, no one will take her place and love you as freely and unconditionally as she did.” (My comment goes for dads too)…
The Spirit of the home: Page 213
“A mother’s love for her children is the most powerful force on earth, except for Kolunsuten’s (Great Spirit-God) “In turn, she will get behind you make you more than you are. It takes a man and woman together to make both of you achieve and be the most that you can be, to make a healthy and vibrant home spirit. Always remember, son, your successes are because of your wife. Take care of her accordingly.
The best man is not necessarily the best looking one, or the fastest talking one. What will hold a Woman’s love for a life time is the man who is kind to children and elders, good to animals and prayerfully ceremonial in his everyday life.”

“Let Mother Earth and all that grows upon her and walks upon her know them as one family, one home. Let your divine spirits of nature and the four winds recognize them….”
Epilogue:
“Even though, many years have passed since the glory days of my youth. I still pray with morning dawn, sometimes at the hilltop. I understand why I always saw the elders shed tears when they prayed. It was the great feeling stirred by the realizations of living life, and understanding that this life is a precious, truly special and sacred privilege extended by the (Kolunsuten-Creator), God, Great Spirit, and your higher power whatever name).” “When you really know way down deep (Kolunsuten-Creator) promised no one a tomorrow or an easy time, then you know how to be thankful in a spiritually joyous way. And you can make sense of life while truly making the most of it yourself.”
