Butcher Block Cart Restoration With Tung Oil

The first cart restore I used Spar varnish and got great results. I wanted to try something else this time mostly just to learn the differences.

Here she is as I got her-

The updates yesterday-

Lightly sanded the butcher block cart and now about to apply a Tung Oil Finish. I don’t consider myself real handy so we will see how this goes.

First coat of Tung Oil applied. Went on easily. Now I’ll let it set up for a bit and apply a second coat.

Today

After letting it set up overnight a third coat-

  1. Yes, it looks fantastic, and I believe you must be handy! You are constantly doing projects! Now, with the new house, you will have so many projects to do. Looking forward to watching how they come out!

  2. My father said once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, once a year for the rest of it’s life. I have my great grandparents’ walnut dining room table and clean it up with denatured alcohol, and then Tung oil once a year now. It looks great! I use a sheepskin buffer to shine it up, so easy!
