I always understood “created in God’s image” as a meaning we are also creators: co-creators, bringing new things into the world that did not exist before through the arts–as you do: visual and plastic arts, music, architecture, literature, dance and much more…Just my thoughts.

Of course we are creators in the sense that we build cars, boats, planes, houses, cellphones, do paintings, photography, write, compose, dance, etc.; however, we are incapable of really creating anything. We can only take what has already been created by Him who created everything, and reorganize it, repurpose it, alter its form, copy it, make it into our version; but without what was first created, including ourselves, our intellect, our inspiration, as well as raw materials, we would have nothing to work with. We cannot make something out of nothing. All truly inspired composers, writers, inventors, artists, etc. say the same thing, maybe using different words — their inspiration comes into and through them. They don’t claim it as their own, as coming from themselves, unless they are vain, prideful and on some level believe themselves to be God. Everything is a gift. Inspiration (from the Latin inspirare, meaning “to breathe into”) refers to an unconscious burst of creativity in a literary, musical, or other artistic endeavor. Whether it is viewed as “Divine inspiration”, the muse, or some other term, depends on the beliefs of the one receiving the inspiration. If something is “breathing into you” it has to come from outside of yourself. We really don’t come up with anything new or original all by ourselves.

Thanks Dave. But even they (our fathers) could not have given anything to us, except that they were first given to, and so on and so on, back to the beginning, when Our Father gave us all. And so true, that we do best if we replace yearning for what is not given us, with gratitude for what is.
