2016 IDRC News

Happy New Year Rowers:

2016 promises to be an exciting new year for the IDRC, with new opportunities for those interested in helping to take the organization in a new direction.  I have enjoyed my time in the leadership role of this organization for many years, but have decided it is time for some new people with fresh ideas to take over.  I appreciate the many people who helped me over the years to maintain the dories, organize the races, set up the annual functions and Lunenburg adventures, as well as participate in or spectate the races.  I could not have pulled it off with out all of your volunteer efforts, so thank you all.
In my time with the IDRC, I hoped to introduce dory rowing and racing to the masses and make the organization more inclusive to all interested parties.  We built our membership to over 200 members.  We held a learn to row program and mentorship program.  We moved to the digital age with emails, website, facebook page and even on-line dues payment.  All of which can be done better in the future with your participation!  I will continue to participate in dory rowing, and volunteer some time to the organization, but not in the leadership role.  I truly hope that some of you many folks that are out rowing the dories all Spring and Summer will consider volunteering some time to help continue this great tradition in Gloucester.
Please attend the upcoming membership meeting 7PM on Monday, February 8th at 28 Gee Avenue (barn) in Gloucester where we will discuss the changes and new direction of the organization.  All members are encouraged to attend and volunteer to take a position on the board.
Best regards,
Erik Dombrowski
