Embarassment of Breakfast Choices In G-Town

Yesterday I took the girls to Charlies Place for breakfast and it was fantastic.  Great service, great food at the right price.

I’ve probably said it before but what the hell, it’s my blog and if I repeat myself so be it.  We have just an incredible amount of fantastic places to go for breakfast that it is ridiculous.

Note to anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to open up a breakfast joint in this town.  You had better bring your A-game because good just isn’t going to cut it.  There are too many places doing breakfast right and mediocrity will not survive here.  you have to be great to survive in the breakfast game here.

I’ve lived in a few other towns enough to know that what we have here is special.  in other towns you are lucky to have one or two good breakfast joints.  Gloucester has at least ten.  Maybe it’s because we are morning people and the fishing industry culture from the past bred a community of early risers ready for food to power us through our hard working days.

I dunno for sure but whatever it is- i Like it!

  1. The highest concentration of good breakfast places are around working harbors and Gloucester has it in spades. The only place on earth that could possibly edge it out is San Diego. Besides being a bit bigger town I have a real soft spot for true Mexican breakfast with home made tortillas.

But then the different hashes at Sisters, the linguica and the other fresh breads from a dozen different places and I could be wrong. I think I have only covered a half dozen places since my butt needs to fit in a kayak this summer so my jury is still out.

I used to hate chipped beef on toast. I would use the rude name about a shingle. Now my pulse quickens when I see it on a menu.

  2. Yep, lots of breakfast choices in Fish City and a few really stellar spots I frequent. The ones I like have unusual menus with some truly special signature dishes. I won’t name them, but there are five.

    Pet peeves:
Lame homefries (no excuse for that)
    Lame Hollandaise
    Food served cold

  4. While I agree that we have a plethora of breakfast places I would have to say that much of the food isn’t all that great. However, my biggest complaint is that NOT ONE of them as really good coffee and that just amazes me….
