This film grounds the viewer in a clear historical context as it explains one of the world’s great environmental disasters, the destruction of the Grand Banks fisheries. And in examining the often Orwellian language of the multinational fishing industry, “One More Dead Fish” explores the media’s failure to report on the true environmental costs of globalization. This film points the way toward saving the world’s fisheries before it’s too late.

Winter Races Fundraiser-
These photos are from Frank Ciolino (Thanks, Frank!) at the “Winter Races” fundraiser for Gloucester’s International Dory Races.
Committee President Jim Tarantino told me this morning that he’s estimating that the event raised $2000 towards the $30,000 needed for 4 new dories and the 2009 operating expenses.
Acknowledgment awards were presented to Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, the schooner Thomas E. Lannon and Gorton’s.
Jim also wants everyone to know that his group not only coordinates races held throughout the summer, but also provides free lessons and other educational programs for the city’s middle school children and others interested in dory rowing.

So if you are interested in rowing (great exercise!) and would like to get out on the water with the experts, be sure to check this out!

Great Weekend Weather!
Dusted off the old video camera and took some footage of the many people (and dogs) enjoying the great weather this weekend. We do live in a magical place with the ocean right at our door step. With spring so close it’s an exciting time on Cape Ann.

Cape Ann Brewing Grand Opening
Yesterday I went down to Commercial St. for the Grand Opening of the Cape Ann Brewing Co. It was packed and everyone was having a good time. The weather cooperated so there were tons of people out walking. Even though it was busy, the guys took time to talk with me, clarify some of the processes, and were just downright friendly.
They use the British method of brewing beer. Check here for information on this process and here for an explanation of the bunghole. Yikes! I hope I have this right!

Back in the day when nursing a hangover my crew would hit up Two Sisters for this very same special #1- Linguica, Eggs, Sauteed Onions, American Cheese w/ Hash Browns.

What, You Don’t Like Rocks For Dinner?
After the Muskeegee Ducks had enough of Snoop Maddie Mad trying to feed them rocks instead of bird food tthey took off. Who could blame them?
Don’t worry though, there were plenty of other birds for Snoop Mad to terrorize later in the day.
Yesterday morning I had the brilliant idea to take her out on the tennis court to kick a rubber ball around. Wouldn’t you know daughter number 2 (the one missing the fear gene) took off in a full sprint and wiped out taking a face first header on the cement. Scraped up and bleeding wouldn’t you know she was up and at ’em minutes later wanting to kick that ball around some more. She’s a maniac and I fear what I’m in for as she gets older.
