Christmas on Main -Things To Do At Art Haven!

From Dawn Gadow At Art Haven-

Hi Joey,
First, there’s a copy of the full schedule for the middle street walk.
I’m not sure if anyone has gotten this to you yet, but it would be
great if you could get it out there for people to see. Also, I’ve
attached our flier about the stuff that we’re doing on the 12th. And
finally, you should try to make it down sometime this week and check
out The Hive–they’re almost completely moved in now and it’s looking
really awesome 🙂 Hope all is well. The cookie contest looked pretty
awesome and successful, I stopped in for a few minutes. Thanks as
always for all you do and hopefully I’ll see you soon!

Sunday, November 29
See and Read Shakespeare
The library will air the BBC production of “Much Ado About Nothing” on Sunday, November 29, at 2pm. This play offers both the wit of the “merry war” between the sexes and a sobering vision of the costs of that combat for both men and women. Shakespeare dramatizes a social world in all of its vibrant particulars, in which characters are shaped by the relations between social convention and individual choice. A discussion of the play will take place when the Shakespeare Readers group meets on Monday, November 30, at 4pm.

Sunday, November 29
Gloucester’s Santa Parade & Tree Lighting

Downtown Gloucester. Parade begins at 3pm at the State Fish Pier, running through Main Street and ending at the Boulevard for the Annual Tree Lighting at Kent Circle (at about 4:30pm).

GMG Cookie Contest- The Bean and Mammaw Say Bring It On!

It’s official.

When picking up my mom at the airport  for the holidays her and the Bean made a pact to enter Laurie and Sharon’s GMG Holiday Cookie Baking contest on December 3rd.

The Bean just loves to cook with my mother.  They both need to have busy hands and love to create so this will be something special for them to do together.

I guess this excludes me from the judging. 🙂

How many of you are planning to enter?  How many of you have children in your life and are looking for some actrivity to do together?  Well come on down to Browns Mall and enter-

Cape Ann Symphony Holiday Pops Concert Nov 28-29th

Holiday Pops Concert Just a Few Days Away!

Right after Thanksgiving, treat yourself to a musical night out November 28 at 8:00PM to hear the Cape Ann Symphony Holiday Pops concert. Or if you prefer, come November 29 to the Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM.

Symphony Singers Return

The concert will once again feature the 50-voice Cape Ann Symphony Singers. As an added bonus, one of its youngest members, soprano Gillian Hurst, will be singing Rejoice Greatly, a beautiful solo from Handel’s Messiah. She is a performer not to be missed!

About our young soloist

Gillian, a senior at Rockport High, recently performed as a soloist at the Koussevitzky Shed and Ozawa Hall while a student at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute last summer. She had the lead role of Cenerentola in BUTI’s presentation of opera scenes from Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Gillian has just been accepted into the American Choral Directors Association’s Women’s Honors Choir to perform in Philadelphia at the ACDA Eastern Conference in February, 2010.

During her high school years, Gillian has had the honor of being accepted and performing with the MA North East District’s Honors Choirs and Symphony Hall Scholars All-State Honors choirs, performing solos at both.

Gillian will attend college next year to pursue her career as a classical singer. She is currently applying to a number of schools.

CHAMBER BUSINESSWOMEN’S HOME TOUR- Saturday, November 21

CHAMBER BUSINESSWOMEN’S HOME TOUR –
“HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS”

Fabulous homes in the Annisquam and Rowley Shore area of Gloucester will be open to the public on Saturday, November 21, for a self guided tour from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some of these beautiful homes will be professionally decorated for the holidays. “Homes for the Holidays” is a program of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Businesswomen’s Division.

The Home Tour is being planned by the Businesswomen to support the Carolyn O’Connor Scholarship. The Businesswomen have given out four $1,000 scholarships since it was created in 2006. The group is hoping to raise enough funds to either increase the scholarship amount or the number of scholarships for 2010.

Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 on the day of the tour. Actual tickets and a map showing the location of the homes can be picked up on the day of the tour at the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, 33 Commercial Street, Gloucester between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Contact the Chamber office at 978-283-1601 to order your advance tickets.
