The 200 Pot Rockland Tree Is Up

They claim it is the largest lobster trap tree in the world with 200 traps.

Well we will see about that.

From The Herald Gazette

Rockland — A team of about 30 community volunteers gathered to construct Rockland’s lobster trap tree Friday morning at Mildred Merrill Park.

The annual event was organized by Rockland Main Street Inc.

Building the holiday tree were volunteers from the business community, Atlantic Challenge and the U.S. Coast Guard, and inmate volunteers from the Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren, according to Lorain Francis, director of Rockland Main Street.

The tree will be built using 200 traps from Brooks Trap Mill in Thomaston.

In Rockland Main Street’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the organization is selling 300 raffle tickets for $50 each, and one ticket holder will win 100 lobster traps, Francis said.

The lobster trap tree lighting ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m., complete with cocoa and cookies.
