MIDWIFE MANDY DAVIS TRAVELING TO HAITI TO TEACH HAITIAN NIRSES TO BECOME BIRTH ATTENDANTS!
My friend Mandy Davis writes,
“I’m going to Haiti at the end of March to volunteer for Midwives for Haiti. I’ll be part of a team teaching Haitian nurses to become Skilled Birth Attendants. It’s an incredible program that educates and empowers Haitian women and men to provide care to their rural communities. I’d love for you to check out their website and make a donation if possible. Any amount at all is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much ❤ ”
Midwives For Haiti educates Haitian nurses to be skilled birth attendants and then empowers them to reach the women who need their care. By scaling health worker capacity within Haiti, we are reducing maternal and infant mortality and creating sustainable change for our graduates and the families they serve. Our 5 health programs are run by and for Haitians and supported by international medical volunteers and staff. Your support improves maternal and infant health in Haiti and saves the lives of women and babies. www.midwivesforhaiti.org
APPLE CIDER PRESSING AT THE DUCKWORTH’S STAFF ANUAL AUTUMN PARTY
Thank you to Coco, Michelle, and the Duckworth’s Family and Staff for the invitation to their super fun annual apple cider pressing party. Everyone brought apples and a jug to bring home a batch of fresh pressed cider. John Sarrouf, the Johnny Apple Curator of Gloucester, collected apples from heirloom apple trees all around the neighborhood. The wonderful variety of apples made for the most flavorful sweet and tart cider–not that sappy stuff found in the grocery stores. The dinner was potluck and as you can imagine, provided by a family of foodlovers (and eaters) the spread was divine!

SCHOONER STROMBUS OFFICIAL LAUNCH PARTY!
CONGRATULATIONS TO GEOFF AND MANDY FOR LAUNCHING SCHOONER STROMBUS TODAY!!!
A new schooner was added to Gloucester’s growing fleet. The schooner was launched today at 11am from the Rocky Neck Marine Railways. Strombus, built by Geoff Deckebach, with help from his wife Mandy, was twelve years in the making. They began gutting and restoring the boat all those many years ago when work and raising a family slowed progress. About a year ago, Geoff decided to turn his full attention to the restoration. The schooner is simply beautiful. More work will continue on the interior and it will be ready enough to motor along in this year’s upcoming Schooner Festival.
Friends, family, and well-wishers stopped by for the Schooner Stombus launching. The official launch party is Sunday.
Congratulations Geoff and Mandy!!!
A BONA FIDE IGLOO IN GLOUCESTER!!
Look what our wonderful neighbors made! Lotus reports that they created the igloo in assembly line fashion from snow packed rectangular-shaped containers. Mandy shares that it was so much fun to make and they will be perfecting their technique for future igloos. I can’t wait to see what they come up with after this next doozy of a blizzard!
