Upstairs at La Trattoria

Driving past this location daily I always look up to this space and dream of having a private club there.  A place where about 10-20 people pay dues and have nice leather couches and highback chairs.  A place with a humidor closet and some cedar lockers where each member could keep a jug of scotch or their favorite spirit.  With a nice flat screen tv to watch sports and some oriental rugs.

Great Teamwork Once Again Shows What Is Possible

Look for The Block Party Red Carpet Celebrity Slide Show At 8AM

A Complete Team Effort Proved Once Again That The Power Of Pulling In The Same Direction For A Great Event Can Reap Huge Rewards For Our Entire Community!

Great job by my fellow Block Party Committee members once again.  Also a great job by the folks in City Government and the Police and Fire Departments.

Special thanks to some unsung heros who also helped tremendously during the event- Rick Moore, Donna Ardizzone, and Bob Gillis who helped clean the streets.

Thanks To the DPW for leaving the extra barrells.

Big thanks to The Cape Ann YMCA Clean Team who you will see in a video later today helping to clean the streets spotless at the end of the night.

I’d like to give a huge personal thank you to our Good Morning Gloucester Soldiers- Sharon who manned the GMG Block Party Celebrity Red Carpet Station (Slide show coming at 8AM), Joey and Frank Ciolino who built the backdrop and helped throughout the event at the media presentation truck and David Cox who will undoubtedly provide us with hundreds more photos from this magnificent evening .

Thanks to the people who provided the media presentations, the Art Haven Folks who provided children activities, and Georgie and Erika Hansen who were doing the face painting.

Thanks to all the musicians and performers who donated their time on one of the busiest nights of the year when they could be playing paid gigs elsewhere but play instead for free because they too realize that sometimes it’s not about getting paid.

The Downtown Merchants and restaurants once again put their best face forward and showed what a brilliant  jewel we have in Downtown Gloucester.

Please Help And Fill Out Downtown Gloucester Survey

Friends and fellow Block Party Committee members Erika Hansen and Linn Parisi asked me to help get feedback for this on-line survey to help downtown-

Hey Joey,

A quick survey to help downtown: on-line survey link below

http://capeannonline.yuku.com/topic/10196/t/A-quick-survey-to-help-support-downtown-Gloucester.html

Do you shop downtown Gloucester? If you do, why do you? If you don’t, why don’t you?

B.U. MBA candidate, Ben Hildreth, has teamed up with Cape Ann Business Incubator to create a survey designed to find out the answer to these questions (and more) with a view to helping existing and potential downtown business owners learn what the locals want – and need.

Surveys are very user-friendly (they take approximately 2 ½ minutes to complete) and will help downtown merchants meet the community’s needs.

Click the link at the top of this e-mail to complete the survey on-line.

For more information, contact Erika Hansen at 978.282.7779 or info@businc.org.

Note: FYI, there is also a Visitors’ Survey, which Ben Hildreth developed in association with Seaport Gloucester Destination Marketing Organization, designed to help tourism-related businesses understand the needs of their market.

While Trish Sanford’s Bubbles will be closing it’s doors- fear not.  Trish’s (forgive the pun) bubbly personality will not leave Main Street, you will find her at the Green Life store right down the street.  I’ll be sure to catch up with Trish once she gets settled in to her new job as manager at Green Life.

UPDATE MAIN STREET PAVING PROJECT:

From The Cape Ann Chamber Of Commerce-

Crosswalk removal TODAY
Curbing work NEXT
Full street paving WEEK OF JUNE 8

The DPW continues to work on downtown road surface improvements.

Today all crosswalks will be removed.  Traffic will be temporarily re-routed
around the work areas as they move down the street.  This work is expected to
finish with all machinery removed this afternoon.  No work is planned for the
Memorial Day Weekend.

Full street paving will take place the week of June 8.  This will require 1 day
to grind the street, 2-3 days raising casting and 1 day to pave.  Please be aware
that the grinding work will be noisy and dirty, but will be completed as quickly
as possible.

Temporary street closures and re-routing of traffic are necessary to complete
the project and disruptions should be expected.  However, all work is expected
to be finished prior to the June 20th Block Party.  The results will be a
smoother, neater, more visitor friendly Main Street.

For updates on the work, please see the City of Gloucester website,
http://www.ci.gloucester.ma.us/ or contact the DPW at 978-281-9785.

Downtown Construction Update 5/21/09

I’m not exactly sure what the structure they are forming in the center of the foundation is.  Perhaps an elevator shaft?  Perhaps a stairwell?  Maybe a middle support?
