It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas…at the Beauport
Christmas at the Beauport is beautiful. I stopped by for an hour the other day while they were still in the midst of decorating. I struggled with wanting to take photos …and wanting to stay out of their way. So, this is all I left with…but, you get the gist. I look forward to going back for a holiday cocktail and to enjoy the holiday ambience again soon.
SCENES FROM THE LAST NIGHT OF OPEN STUDIO LOBSTER TRAP TREE BUOY PAINTING AND WHY WE LOVE CAPE ANN ART HAVEN!
Thank you to Cape Ann Art Haven’s program director Cathy Kelley and executive director Traci Thayne Corbett for the invitation to photograph this year’s Lobster Trap Tree lighting and buoy painting. The joy was all mine–the children’s enthusiasm, the pride and joy on their faces, the parent’s participation, and the priceless gift of community spirit make this one of Cape Ann’s most cherished (and most fun) holiday traditions. And it has been wonderful to see how conscientiously Traci and Cathy run the program and how caring and thoughtful they are with the children.
Did you know that Cape Art Haven buoy painting is 100 percent FREE and open to the entire community?
What has become a much beloved Cape Ann tradition is a way of saying thank you from Art Haven to the community. If you haven’t already done so, please consider donating to this tremendously worthwhile organization. Not only is buoy painting free, but all the programs Art Haven offers are available to everyone, whether or not they have the ability to pay. SCENES FROM ART HAVEN’S LOBSTER TRAP TREE COMMUNITY-WIDE BUOY PAINTING TODAY
Throngs of young painters filled Art Haven today at the community-wide buoy painting for Gloucester’s very special Lobster Trap Tree. A line formed out the door, but it wasn’t a long wait before kids were seated at a work table, supplied with blank buoys, paints, and brushes.
With thanks to founder David Brooks, executive director Traci Thayne Corbett, and assisted by a tremendous team of staff and volunteers, the children are participating in a wonderful holiday event, sharing a bit of Gloucester culture, holiday tradition, and FUN!

BUILDING THE LOBSTER TRAP CHRISTMAS TREE #GLOUCESTERMA

As of Friday afternoon, and in preparation of building the Lobster Trap Tree, the base of the tree was aligned in a circle. Many more traps were stacked neatly in piles around the perimeter.
David Brooks and the Art Haven crew began building the tree Saturday morning. Around and around and around the crew worked stacking traps all day, carefully securing each and every pot with ties. As the tree grew taller and taller, the man on the ground passed the lobster trap to the next person in the chain, hand to hand, to the top of the tree. By early evening Saturday the last lobster trap was in place and the tree construction complete.
The Lobster Trap Tree lighting ceremony takes place December 9th on Saturday afternoon at around 4:30.
Teamwork!

Unlike in previous years where our local lobsterman have generously donated their working traps, this year’s brand spanking new traps were donated by Three Lanterns Marine & Fishing. The lobster traps are deep green, with lighter bright green nets, and red plastic escape vents. As Joey Ciaramitaro and lobster boat Captain Mark Ring explained, modern lobster pots are designed with in-trap escape vents, which allow for freedom of movement in and out of the trap by lobsters that are too small to catch legally. The larger in-trap escape vented lobster traps are one of the many ways Massachusetts lobstermen work together to insure a sustainable lobster fisheries for future generations.
Joey Asked, We Got Inspired: SAT NOV 25 Christmas Show that’s as much fun for Adults as it is for Kids

A few weeks ago, Joey called me asking if we were planning to have any shows for kids — and we got inspired.
We wanted to produce a show is as much fun for adults as it is for kids.
So… we’re bringing International star Bryson Lang‘s Cure for the Common Show to 9 Wallis (right down the road in Beverly) this Saturday at 2pm.

And because it’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we invited Santa to make a magical appearance, hand out some gifts and pose on our stage with your child (or grandchild) for a perfectly lit photo op.
All for only 15 bucks! GET TICKETS HERE.
Snacks and beverages for adults and kids will be available for purchase. All you have to do is bring the kids, relax and enjoy the show!
