Some photos from last night’s Beaux Arts Ball by Carol McKenna.

And some photos taken by me of Audi Souza’s extremely successful opening reception at Khan Studio.  That girl’s paintings just flew off the walls.  Congratulations Audi.

Pastel Workshop with Gabrielle Barzaghi at Rocky Neck Cultural Center

pastel workshop

July 19, 20 and 21, 10 am – 3 pm

This is an intensive three-day workshop that explores traditional and contemporary approaches to drawing with chalk pastels. There will be an ongoing conversation about color (observed and expressive), formal and technical drawing concerns, and meaning and metaphor as it relates to our work. There will be demos, critiques, and lots of one-on-one attention. Participants should have basic drawing skills. If you love to draw and would like to learn how to use pastels, or would like to brush up on your pastel technique and try new things, this would be a great workshop to take. Painters will find this medium a welcome addition to their studio practice.

Artist and Educator Gabrielle Barzaghi is a Senior Lecturer at New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University and has taught college level drawing since 1980. You may see her work at www.gabriellebarzaghi.com

Cost: RNAC members $300, Non-members $330
Details: Minimum enrollment 5 people, maximum 8. A supply list will be provided. Students must bring their own drawing boards. Easels are provided.
To sign up or for more information, contact Gabrielle Barzaghi at gb@gabriellebarzaghi.com

Ribbon Cutting at The Center at Rocky Neck

We’re lucky our Mayor isn’t an “off with their heads” kind of gal, or some people might be in trouble with those massive scissors she was wielding last night.

It was a wonderful celebration of the Center passing into the hands of the Rocky Neck Art Colony.  We now have a permanent home, and a space where everyone in the community can come together and enjoy a great diversity of programming.

If you haven’t yet been to the Center, you owe it to yourself to stop by and visit soon.  It is really a beautiful, warm and inviting space with lots of great things happening in it.   Visit http://mail.rockyneckartcolony.org/ to see what’s coming up.

The Passing of the Keys

 Photos by E.J. Lefavour

It is now official.  The closing was at Deb Eliason’s office this morning and RNAC took ownership from Steve and Kathy Archer of the Center at Rocky Neck.  Join us this evening from 6:00-8:00pm for a ribbon-cutting/key-passing ceremony and celebration of this momentous event in the history of Rocky Neck.  A debt of gratitude is owed to Steve and Kathy Archer who made it possible for RNAC to conceive of accomplishing this major undertaking, and to Karen Ristuben and Karen Tibbets, who were the major driving forces behind its becoming a reality.  Kudos to all the RNAC members who have worked so hard this past year to help make this happen.
