THE 64th SEASON: A SEASON TO REMEMBER

Cape Ann Symphony proudly announces the launch of the orchestra’s 64th Concert Season on Saturday, September 26 at 8 pm with theSymphonic Spectacular Concert featuring a sultry program of passionate music from Ravel’s Bolero to Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition to Gershwin’s An American in Paris. The orchestra’s new season features the Cape Ann Symphony Chorus in the annualHoliday Pops Concert in November; a global tour in March 2016 with Germany’s Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, an exotic Spanish guitar concerto featuring renowned soloist Grisha Goryachev, and a world premiere from Japanese composer Koto; and a trio of world class soloists: Lucia Lin, Owen Young and Robert Levin in May. 2016. Cape Ann Symphony Music Director and Conductor Yoichi Udagawa is eager to open the CAS’s 64th concert season, “There is a vividness and clarity of experience that comes from seeing and listening to music being created in front of you that cannot be equaled. The enthusiasm of our audiences inspires us, and we are looking forward to presenting concerts that thrill, move, excite, and lift the heart and spirit. The September concert will be a Symphonic Spectacularfeaturing Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Ravel’s Bolero, Holiday Pops will include audience favorites as well as selections with the Cape Ann Symphony Chorus, March brings a world premiere, guitar virtuoso Grisha Goryachev and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, and the season ends with the Beethoven Triple Concerto with renowned pianist Robert Levin and much loved violinist Lucia Lin and cellist Owen Young.All Cape Ann Symphony Concerts are held at the Manchester-Essex High School auditorium on 36 Lincoln Street in Manchester-by-the-Sea., MA .Manchester-Essex High School Auditorium is handicapped accessible. Cape Ann Symphony kicks off their 64th season with a Symphonic Spectacular featuring the passionate music of Ravel, Gershwin and Mussorgsky. This spectacular season opener brings to life these timeless classics: Ravel’s Bolero; Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Gershwin’s An American in Paris.

The Cape Ann Symphony’s annual Holiday Pops Concert is an exciting celebration of holiday music favorites including an audience sing-along to kick off the holiday season on Saturday, November 28 at 8 pm & Sunday, November 29 at 2 pm. This joyful Cape Ann Symphony holiday tradition features Cape Ann Symphony Chorus under the direction of Rockport’s Wendy Betts.

 

A GLOBAL TOUR

Performance:                Sunday, March 20, 2016       2:00 P.M.

Germany, Japan and Spain are featured in Cape Ann Symphony‘s A Global Tour concert on Sunday, March 20 at 2 pm. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor represents Germany. Renowned guitar virtuoso Grisha Goryachev makes his Cape Ann Symphony debut with an exotic Spanish guitar concerto, Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez to represent Spain. Finally, Cape Ann Symphony will play a world premiere work by Japanese composer Koto.

THE THREE B’S

Featuring Soloists Lin, Young and Levin

Performance:                Saturday, May 21, 2016                  8:00 P.M.

Cape Ann Symphony welcomes a trio of world class composers: The Three B’s: Bach, Beethoven and Brahms and soloists: violinist Lucia Lin, cellist Owen Young and pianist Robert Levin. These powerful performers join the orchestra for Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano. The Three B’s Concert features the orchestra playing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.3and Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F Major.
