LUSH SUMMER PLANTER GARDEN

Our planters for the Kendal Hotel and Black Sheep Restaurant, located at 350 Main Street in Kendal Square, Cambridge, are planted up in late spring. We keep them going with daily watering and fertilizing.

The hydrangeas look more and more beautiful as the summer progresses and I found a wonderful complementary purplish-blue and white striped petunia at Cedar Rock Gardens this year. With a name like ‘Blueberry Muffin,’  how could one resist purchasing. ‘Blueberry Muffin’ is holding its own and filling out nicely. It’s a keeper and on the list for next year.

Next time you’re in Cambridge, stop by and check out the Kendall Firehouse Hotel and come on in for a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is simply outstanding and the staff are wonderfully friendly and professional.

Nature rarer uses yellow

Nature rarer uses yellow
Than another hue;
Saves she all of that for sunsets,—
Prodigal of blue,

Spending scarlet like a woman,
Yellow she affords
Only scantly and selectly,
Like a lover’s words.

Emily Dickinson

Photos from the planters that surround the Black Sheep Restaurant at the Kendall Hotel. We made an extra beautiful mix this year, and many of the varieties are fragrant. The weather was kind to tulips and daffodils this year. The nicest thing though is when city dwelling passers-by stop to take photos and tell you how happy the flowers make them feel 🙂

AMERICAN FLAG FOLK ART AND WHIMSY

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

My friend Charlotte Forsythe has decorated the hotel that she co-owns with her husband Gerald Fandetti, The Kendall Hotel, with an unerring eye for beauty and whimsy, and all displayed with a sophisticated charm and wit. The Kendall is a restored firehouse located in the heart of the MIT area of Cambridge (Google offices are just across the street). Charlotte scours flea markets, art exhibits, and antique shows across the country for American folk art.
